What is the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway? Explaining college football halftime contest
College football conference championship weekend has arrived. On Saturday, eight of college football's top teams will fight for four automatic bids to the College Football Playoff.
But a conference title and a spot in the CFP won't be the only thing being competed for at AT&T Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Bank of America Stadium and Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.
Back by popular demand, two college students at each of the Power 4 championship game sites will go head-to-head in the — perhaps life-altering — $100,000 Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway.

College football Week 15 predictions: Expert picks for every conference championship game
Here's what you need to know about the Dr Pepper halftime challenge as it takes place across all Power 4 conference championship games on Saturday:
What is the Dr Pepper halftime challenge?
The Dr Pepper halftime challenge is one of the most anticipated events during championship weekend. As the name suggests, it's a halftime challenge during each of the Power 4 championship games between two college students from around the country.
The challenge at hand? Throw as many official league footballs as possible into oversized Dr Pepper cans from the 5-yard line in a pre-determined set of time.
As noted by The New York Times, to be selected for the Dr Pepper halftime challenge, college students must submit video entries explaining how the scholarship would impact their lives and help them achieve their goals.
Last year during the Dr Pepper halftime challenge at the Big 12 championship game at AT&T Stadium, two students were rewarded with the $100,000 scholarship due to a scoring error. Other runners-up received $20,000 in tuition money last year.
Dr Pepper, which is also an official sponsor of the College Football Playoff, started the Dr Pepper halftime challenge in 2008 at the ACC championship game between Virginia Tech and Boston College. It is now going on its 16th season.
