ALFIE Johnson will join several of his Warrington Wolves teammates in spending the early weeks of the season in the lower leagues.

The England rugby sevens international, who swapped codes to rugby league to join The Wire on a two-year deal, will turn out for Widnes Vikings for at least the next two weeks as part of the dual-registration agreement between the two clubs.

Winger Johnson scored two tries in Warrington's pre-season friendly against Widnes last month, and Vikings boss Allan Coleman is delighted to have him on board.

“I’m over the moon to get Alfie on board. When we played Warrington in pre-season he was a real threat and scored two good tries," he told the club's website.

“He’s powerful, quick, and knows where the tryline is which is important to us.

“We’ve got a few niggles in that back line and we’ve not got the biggest squad in the Championship, so it’s great to get him in and I’m excited to see how he goes.”

Warrington Wolves players out on loan and dual-registration

Johnson joins Wire teammates Jake Thewlis and Zac Bardsley-Rowe in temporarily moving to the Championship, with the duo having joined London Broncos on a two-week loan deal earlier in the week.

Warrington also have a dual-registration agreement with League One side Keighley Cougars, and youngsters Ewan Smith and Charlie McKler - an outside-back and prop respectively - are set to feature for them in the coming weeks.

Hooker Ben Hartill and winger Frank Sergent (both Swinton Lions) and prop Noah High (Workington Town) will also spend time on loan in the third tier while prop Dan Okoro will spend the season on loan at Super League rivals Castleford Tigers.
