Competitors faced a muddy course at a duathlon in Brighstone.

The Wight Tri second winter series duathlon, known as 'Strawberry Pain', took place on Sunday, February 9.

Participants in the event were greeted with tough, muddy conditions, forcing some to abandon their 'brand new' trainers.

Despite the challenging terrain, many competitors took on the 6km long run option while others opted for a shorter 3.9km route.

The cycling portion of the event involved one or two laps of a 10.9km route, showcasing views along Brook and Mottistone.

The course included a steep climb up Strawberry Lane, with a gradient of 21.7 per cent.

Daron Perkins took home the award for the most accurate predicted time, finishing 45 seconds off his forecast.

Craig Wilson achieved the fastest overall time, completing the course in one hour, 44 minutes, and 30 seconds.

All participants were rewarded with cake and hot drinks at the end of the race.

The next duathlon is set to take place at Colwell on Sunday, March 9 at 9am.

Prospective participants are encouraged to join, bringing along a bike, helmet, and trainers.
