Dumfries and Galloway curlers have won the Mercure Perth Masters.

Dalbeattie’s Orrin Carson skipped the rink, featuring his brother Logan and Dumfries pair Charlie Gibb and Archie Hyslop, to success in Monday’s final.

It was a first title at men’s level for the rink, who are three time Scottish junior champs.

After making it out of the group stage, they saw off Team Morozumi 7-3 in the quarter-finals.

Team Bryce were dispatched 7-5 in the semis, setting up a final clash with Team Muirhead.

And it was the Dumfries and Galloway curlers who triumphed 9-3.

That gave them success in the prestigious competition, which was won last year by the Winter Olympic medal winning rink of Bruce Mouat, Stranraer pair Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jnr and Kirkgunzeon’s Grant Hardie.

It’s going to be a busy week for Orrin Carson as he’s heading to Torino in Italy for the FISU Winter World University Games.

He will represent Great Britain along with Robyn Munro in the mixed doubles.

Last year, Logan Carson and Archie Hyslop helped Team GB win gold in the mixed competition at the Winter Youth Olympics.
