Dumfries Running Club members enjoy festive race at Annan
Six Dumfries Running Club members travelled to Annan for their first ever Elf and Santa Dash on Sunday.
The tail end of Storm Darragh may have caused problems with the organisers gazebo, but it couldn’t steal everyone’s festive spirit or the fun-filled atmosphere of the morning.
More than 130 participants in two races raised £650 for Annan Day Centre and in the Santa 5k, the suitably dressed winner was Neil Richardson of the host club in an impressive 19.06.

For the DRC members it was a chance to enjoy a new event with friends and for those who were doing the Marcothon challenge, which involves 5k every day in December, to tick off another 5k towards their personal target. Fiona Gonlag, Rebecca Queen and Nicola Ross ran together and each finished a few seconds apart in 28.30 and the second group of Yeolande Davies, Laura Broatch and Fiona Jardine in 32.45 with everyone thoroughly enjoying a fun event.
JogScotland training
The previous day four members, Rebecca Queen, Jamie Cottrell, Louise Craig and Kirsty Stewart travelled to Grangemouth to upgrade their Scottish Athletics qualifications and become fully fledged jogScotland leaders. This training course expands the numbers of qualified leaders and allows the club to run the free 10-week 2025 jogScotland programme which will start on Monday, January 6 at 6.30pm at Dumfries Sports Club at Nunholm.
This is designed for those who have little to no running experience and for those who have started previously but have not continued and gives an ideal opportunity for a re-start.
