Dwight Howard on Joel Embiid: 'He's the toughest to guard because he knows how to flop'

.
.

Dwight Howard on Joel Embiid: ‘Embiid is the toughest to guard because he knows how to flop. He knows how to use his size and strength when he has to. He can shoot really well. If I was checking him, I’d beat him up and down the court, not letting him get easy points, don’t go for no pump fakes. (…) I'm crowding his space because I know he's either going to do like this and try to go around me. I'm eating that space up as soon as I see the ball come up, as soon as he goes like this, I'm getting right up under him so the next time he puts it down he’s going to have to turn his back or think about it. So Embiid is one of those unicorns.

Kyle Neubeck @KyleNeubeck

Embiid has dominated the game since he picked up the early tech. Should be a game where he sits the whole fourth quarter if he and his teammates take it seriously - 6:30 PM

Austin Krell @NBAKrell

It looked like Embiid was given the technical long after separating from Johnson, specifically when Nic Claxton got involved.

Why wasn't it just off-setting technicals on both? - 6:20 PM

Rich Hoffman @rich_hofmann

Might not matter today, but the Sixers do not currently have enough quality rotation players to withstand the Embiid-Maxey-George starting lineups beginning every game half-asleep.

They need to *smoke* teams during those stretches, not dig double-digit deficits. - 6:19 PM

Adam Aaronson @SixersAdam

Joel Embiid has been given a technical foul for... something. Not even sure how to describe what it was, but the fans booed him for it. He finishes a layup on the next play to get on the board. - 6:17 PM

Nick Nurse says Joel Embiid remains questionable and will go through his pregame warmup, per the usual. - 4:31 PM

Adam Aaronson @SixersAdam

It seems Joel Embiid could be listed as questionable on a game-by-game basis for however long his left foot sprain lingers.

Kelly Oubre Jr., who played in the Sixers' first 30 games, may miss his third in a row. Andre Drummond isn't on the injury report.

More on this storyline

Dwight Howard on Defensive Player of the Year award: ‘I could have won it every year I played in the league, like if I had enough minutes and enough time I would feel like I could win it. I say defense is all about conditioning and mindset. When I played in my prime I never got tired, never got tired, so my workout regime was very, very tough in order for me not to get tired in games. I was able to play if I had to play 48 minutes I could play without getting tired. So that is key, that is key, it’s conditioning. Conditioning brings so much confidence and swag to your game.
