Dylan Jones said his goodbyes at Plymouth Parkway on Saturday and was given the perfect send off before he heads to Championship side Norwich City for a crack at life as a professional footballer.

The talented 20-year-old last week signed for the Canaries on a contract until the summer of 2027, with the option of another year, after impressing in a recent trial in which he scored twice for their Under-21 side in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

Before he headed for East Anglia, though, Jones returned to Bolitho Park for one last time to say his goodbyes and see his now former club enjoy a 2-1 victory over Chertsey Town, courtesy of Tylor Love-Holmes’ stoppage time winner.

“I appreciate everyone that’s involved with this club, fans, staff, the boys – everybody – the catering people, people behind the bar – everyone,” Jones said.

“It feels very good. It is bitter sweet, obviously, it was my last game here, a great game as a send-off. I am buzzing that I have the opportunity to go to a professional club, but it is also sad leaving all this behind as it’s had such a big impact on my life, really.”

Jones has become a huge favourite with the Parkway faithful ever since he broke into the first team under the guidance of former manager Lee Hobbs. He joined Parkway after being released from Exeter City’s Academy and spent two years with the Under-18s before Hobbs thrust him into the first team environment.

From there, he never looked back and as a regular goalscorer in the Southern League Premier Division, he undertook trials at both Norwich and Premier League side Brentford, where he also scored and impressed watching coaches.

However, Norwich won the race for his signature with Jones showing that you should never give up on a dream, despite the setback of him being released by Exeter.

“All the family were there, a big parade of us! But it was a very proud moment for myself and the family and that’s what matters,” Jones said of his signing at Carrow Road.

“Everyone says it, but you just have to work hard and keep going. I think resilience is a big thing as well because when I thought I had kicked on, then I have had a setback and had to kick on again, so resilience and work hard are important.

“But you have to make sure you are enjoying it. That’s the biggest because if you are not enjoying it, then you are not going to improve, or you are not going to want to even play. Make sure you are enjoying it, no matter what level.”

Jones leaves with his own stand-out memories of what he achieved with Parkway, but he feels the time is right to embark on the next chapter of his football journey.

“I would say Walton & Hersham, away, and scoring a 95 th minute goal. It was the winner, 2-1, and was when my confidence really took off,” he said reflecting on his time with the Yellows.

“I’d also say Beaconsfield, last game of the season, and scoring in that game was unbelievable as it had such a big impact on keeping us up. We drew that game in the end, but those two moments definitely stand out for me in my time at Parkway.”

On joining Norwich, he added: "It's a privilege to play for such a great club. The history of the club is brilliant and it's great to be a part of it. I can't wait to see what the future holds.”
