East Cowes Vics continued their fine form, defeating fellow play-off hopefuls Hamworthy United in today's Wessex Division One action.

The win saw the Island side leapfrog Hamworthy in the table to move into 4th place.

With only two points separating the sides going into the match, it was always destined to be a close encounter.

After a relatively quiet first half an hour, home side Hamworthy took the lead in spectacular fashion with 35 minutes on the clock.

From around 45 yards out, Micky Hubbard struck a sweet free kick which Fraser Law in the Vics goal could only watch sail past him.

At half-time, it was 1-0 to the home team.

It was much of the same in the second-half, with both teams proving to be a match for each other.

But just as Hamworthy thought they might take all three points, Rafferty Boyd-Kerr met a sublime cross from Zak Sullivan to head home.

Just four minutes later, Vics struck again. A Sullivan corner drifted towards the near post and the young Hamworthy keeper could only push the ball into his own net.

Final score: Hamworthy United 1-2 East Cowes Vics.

The other Division One game saw Newport host Folland Sports.

It took until the 23rd minute for Port's first chance of the game, Joe Butcher seeing his effort saved by the keeper.

At half-time, the score remained 0-0.

With 50 minutes on the clock, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock.

Follands broke down the right and the ball was squared across the area for the lively Callum Dart to tap in from close range.

After Port's Harri Catania was shown a straight red, the game looked to be going Folland's way.

That was until the 87th minute when Henry West popped up with a great header back across goal, which just about defeated the desperate dive of the keeper.

In the remaining minutes it was the ten men who looked the likely winners but the wobbling Follands back line just about held on for a vital point.

Final score: Newport FC 1-1 Folland Sports.
