Edged out of the medals at North of England Cross Country Championships
WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s under 17s women were pipped to the medals in the North of England Cross Country Championships held at Tatton Park in Knutsford on Saturday.
Imogen Wharton led the team home in 16th place with a time of 19mins 32secs and was supported by Hannah Hull, who was 33rd in 21mins exactly, Sinead Gregory, 50th in 21mins 58secs and Cara Gregory, 52nd in 22mins 07secs, to finish fourth in the team event.
The squad was completed by Olivia Haselden in 59th place in 22mins 36secs.
Warrington AC were represented in eight of the other nine races.
In the under 13s girls race, Grace Rashud was first to finish in 64th place in 12mins 10secs and was followed home by Charlotte Andrew, 93rd in 12mins 47secs, and Lois Johnston Starrs, 108th in 13mins 14secs.
Ashton Illingworth finished 53rd in the under 13s boys and Arthur Agamian was 89th, with times of 11mins 05secs and 11mins 44secs respectively.
In the under 15s girls, Evie-May Williams and Elizabeth Lees were close together, finishing in 54th and 56th places with respective times of 16mins 19secs and 16mins 21secs.
Euan Lawton and Alfie Blizzard finishing 45th and 55th in the under 15s boys race in 14mins 37secs and 14mins 47secs respectively.
Tom Welsby was the only runner from the club in the under 17s men’s event, finishing in 30th place in 19mins 14secs while in the under 20s women’s race Eleanor Grace was also the only runner from the club finishing in 34th place in 24mins 22secs.
In the senior women’s race Claire Andrew was first to finish for the club in 74th place in 33mins 13secs, with Faye Lawton 144th in 37mins 59secs and Anne Gregory 187th in 43mins 42secs.
The day was brought to a close by the senior men’s race where Adam Rashud finished in 111th place in 41mins 32secs, with Jack Pilkington 119th in 41mins 50secs.
Matthew Jenson was next in with 42mins 30secs in 134th place and, with Leighton Sharman 144th in 42mins 44secs, Dave Norman 265th in 48mins 38secs and Mark Gregory 359th in 56mins 29secs, the team were 17th with 1132 points.
Meanwhile, at the Merseyside Schools Cross Country Championships at Range High School in Formby, Warrington Athletics Club’s under 17s athlete Hannah Hull competed in the senior girls race for Carmel College St Helens and placed third with an excellent run in a time of 15mins 16secs.
This run should mean that she will be selected for the English Schools Championships on Saturday, March 15 at Ardingly Showground in West Sussex.
