Egypt vs DR Congo LIVE! AFCON result, match stream, latest updates as Leopards win penalty shootout

Egypt vs DR Congo LIVE!

Egypt suffered more Africa Cup of Nations shoot-out heartache as goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi scored the winning penalty to send DR Congo through to the quarter-finals. All four of the Pharaohs' knockout games in the 2021 tournament required additional time, culminating in a spot-kick defeat to Senegal in the final. And, after a 1-1 draw following extra-time, they went the same way in San Pedro with an 8-7 loss on penalties.

Mostafa Mohamed continued to step up in the absence of the injured Mohamed Salah with his fourth goal in as many matches from the spot, cancelling out Meschack Elia's opener, with Egypt hanging on in extra time following Mohamed Hamdy's 97th-minute red card.

Mohamed missed from 12 yards the second time around and keeper Mohamed Abou Gabal also fluffed his lines, leaving opposite number Mpasi to hold his nerve and set up a last-eight clash with Guinea. Read back Egypt vs DR Congo below via Standard Sport's match blog!

22:32 , Alex Young

112min: Elneny is both, replaced by Lasheen.

22:32 , Alex Young

111min: Bongonda brings the ball down on his chest at the edge of the area and volleys at goal, but it would have cleared three goals.

22:31 , Alex Young

110min: Egypt retreat again, inviting Congo onto them but the Leopards are just relying on cross after cross into the area which their opponents are more than a match to.

108min: Egypt keeper got hurt in that move but looks OK to continue.

22:28 , Alex Young

107min: Chance! Banza stretches to tuck home surely the winner but the fizzed-in cross is too quick for him.

72min: Egypt are not doing enough to test DR Congo. Mohamed tries to get the better of them and the referee with a dive but no one is fooled.

21:35 , Alex Young

69min: Congo waste another corner. They've had plenty and done little with any of them.

21:31 , Alex Young

66min: Double change for DR Congo. Desabre and Banza are on for Batubinsika and Bakumbu.

28min: Congo enjoying an extended period of possession now.

20:26 , Alex Young

24min: Fine pass from Wissa to feed Elia into the area, but the winger takes a touch and allows the defence to smother before the kicker pounces on the loose ball.
