Eiran Cashin is set for a spell on the sidelines until the new year as the Derby County defender prepares for further scans on his hamstring issue.

The centre-back had to be replaced in the second half of the 4-0 win over Portsmouth and left the game with a bag of ice strapped to his right leg.

A definitive timescale has not been set for his return with the centre-back - who scored the second goal against Pompey - due to undergo further scans according to Paul Warne this morning, but he is expected to be out until the new year at least.

The news is a blow to the defender, who has been in the best form of his career at Derby and has played a key role in recent weeks with Derby currently 14th in the Championship table.

Cashin will definitely be missing from the squad which travels to Luton Town on Friday night, but Derby have more than enough cover in Sonny Bradley and on-loan Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

Phillips is likely to be given the nod to face Rob Edwards' side at Kenilworth Road and the Anfield defender was excellent in his last two appearances at Leeds United and Burnley.
