Brighton are ramping up their attempts in a bid to lure Eiran Cashin to the Premier League with the Derby County defender understood to be keen on the move.

Cashin sparked further speculation over his future after yesterday's 2-1 defeat at Cardiff having stayed behind to clap the away support long after his team-mates had returned to the dressing room.

That has sparked suggestions that he was saying goodbye, but it is understood that no deal with Brighton has been agreed. Derby are adamant that they do not want to sell, and Brighton have yet to reach a figure that would tempt the club to change its mind.

But you sense that if Brighton could reach a figure that Derby are happy with, allied with the player's desire to play in the top flight, the money could be reinvested into the team.

However, Brighton are thought to be far from reaching a compromise for the academy graduate, who has just returned from a hamstring injury. Cashin is believed to be keen on a move to the coast, and significantly, yesterday, he was not handed the captain's armband for the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff.

It is not the first time that Brighton have attempted to sign the centre-back having tried to sign him in the summer transfer window of the 2023/24 season. Derby successfully thwarted Brighton's attempts to sign the centre-back back then as the two clubs negotiated throughout deadline day to no avail.

Cashin was subsequently left out of the squad after a tense day of negotiations but he then returned and subsequently signed a new deal last year that tied him to the club until 2027.
