It did not take Marcus Rashford long to make his mark in an Aston Villa shirt. Just a few seconds into tonight's 2-1 FA Cup win over Tottenham in fact - and that mark was left by his elbow on Tottenham defender Kevin Danso.

It was a promising start, the Manchester United loan man jumped almost a foot higher than his marker to win a header before play was stopped with blood dripping from the Austrian’s head.

Rashford’s second touch sent Lucas Digne charging into the Spurs penalty area, his third won a corner. Those who doubted his ongoing passion for football had their answer inside two minutes.

What followed was 25 minutes of alert movement, nutmegs, direct running and a very passable impression of the player who once became the darling of Old Trafford. His new admirers inside Villa Park were quickly won over. Spurs defender Pedro Porro will have been less keen having been tormented by the 27-year-old.

Within ten minutes he produced a deft lay off that freed Morgan Rogers who in turn put Jacob Ramsey through on goal.

More accuracy or vision from Rogers on two occasions, one when he opted to shoot himself, another when his slide-rule ball through the middle was intercepted might have given the forward his own sight of the target.

When the defence did part in the last minute and he was freed on the right Rashford had only one thing in mind – score a debut goal. In the end he ran into Archie Gray and left his mark on a second Spurs player.

Rashford arrived with questions hanging over his head, in less than half an hour he answered many of them.

Our reporter John Townley gave him a 7/10 for his cameo and wrote: "Rashford looked confident on the ball and kept his position well, just in off the left flank. Clearly has bags of ability, but we knew that already."

Villa fans were impressed

@reecejones8811: Asensio and Rashford both looked electric when they came on. Long may it continue

@lovespud83: We were already creating decent chances for weeks now, but the addition of Malen, Rashford and Asensio could be frightening. If we find a way to be clinical, we could hand out some absolute maulings before the end of the season

@a_rankin1: So good performances in there. Should have scored 3 or 4

Malen, Rogers, Ramsey, McGinn, Garcia

Asensio and Rashford are clearly gonna add some flair going forward

@VeeKaay33: Wish we had more time to see Rashford and Asensio
