Eli Manning Reveals the Storied New Orleans Hotspot He'll Visit During the Super Bowl (Exclusive)
When the former New York Giants quarterback returns to his hometown next Sunday to watch the Super Bowl, he says he'll swing by this Big Easy spot for a sandwich
If you're in New Orleans for the Super Bowl next weekend and have a hankering for one of the city's most beloved sandwiches, you just might see a football MVP in line next to you.
"I always have to go to Domilise's," Eli Manning tells PEOPLE of the historic restaurant Domilise's Po-Boy and Bar.
"I always need a shrimp po'boy, fried shrimp po'boy, fully dressed," he says. "So I'll usually go to Dom's and get one. Although it gets a little hectic and busy there!"
The storied restaurant, located on the corner of Annunciation and Bellcastle, has been open since 1918, and owned by four generations of the same family for over a century. At lunchtime, it's usually packed — but fans like the late Anthony Bourdain have said that the sandwiches, which come with lettuce, tomato and a creole mustard when fully dressed, are worth the wait.
Manning's own family has been going there for decades. His dad Archie Manning played for the New Orleans Saints twice during his football career, and he and his wife Olivia raised sons Peyton, 48, Cooper, 50, and Eli, 44, there. Domilise's boasts a "Manning Wall of Fame," showcasing images of New Orleans' most famous football family.
Eli says one the best parts of going back home for Super Bowl this year, where the Eagles will face the Chiefs on Feb. 9, is that he'll get to stay with his parents — and he'll get to feel like a little kid again.
"My mom's going to be making me breakfast every morning," he says with a laugh.
"So that'll be a lot of fun to be there, to get to see my parents, and both my brothers will be there too. So it's almost like a family reunion for the Super Bowl this year."
As for his own family, Manning says his three girls are also into sports, and his son Charlie, 6, may also get into the "family business."
"I mean, we are up at 5 in the morning every day doing dropbacks and lifting weights already, but there's no pressure for him to become a quarterback or play football," he jokes of his son.
Along with Charlie, Manning is dad to daughters Ava, 13, Lucy, 11, and Caroline, 9, with wife Abby McGrew. In 2022, he became an investor in the Gotham FC football club, in part because he wants to encourage women's sports.
"As a dad, I want to make sure that my daughters have all the athletic opportunities that I was blessed with," he said at the time.
