Emi Martinez responds to Marcus Rashford's nine-word Aston Villa message after debut

Marcus Rashford has thanked Aston Villa supporters for their warm welcome at Villa Park on Sunday after the Manchester United loanee made his debut in the second half of the 2-1 FA Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Coming on in the 67th minute, Rashford was introduced to his new fans moments after Morgan Rogers doubled Villa’s lead. Jacob Ramsey scored the opening goal inside the first minute of the fourth round tie before Rogers converted from close range just after the hour mark.

Mathys Tel halved Spurs’ deficit in the first minute of second half added time, but Villa held on to secure their passage to the next round.

After the game, Rashford took to Instagram to post a message alongside a series of pictures. He wrote: “Thank you for the warm welcome. Great team performance.”

In response, Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez posted: "Welcome brother", alongside a fire emoji.

Marco Asensio also made his debut alongside Rashford, coming on at the same time as the 27-year-old. He showed his class with few flicks and tricks as he played in the hole on the right behind Rogers, while Ramsey played off the left with Rashford more advanced.

Asensio posted on X: “What a fantastic feeling to make my debut at Villa Park, even better to do it with a win! Hoping for many more nights like this. On to the next round!

“Massive thanks for the support and the warm welcome, Villans!”
