Emma Raducanu teams up with childhood coach for Australian Open
Emma Raducanu has partnered with former coach Nick Cavaday for the Australian Open.
The former British No1 had been joined by another former coach in Jane O’Donoghue for her return to competitive action after more than eight months out at last week’s ASB Classic in Auckland.
But she has opted to have Cavaday heading up her team in Melbourne and the pair were seen working together on Monday.
According to the BBC, the decision to partner with Cavaday – her childhood coach – was only made last week and it is unclear how long the partnership will last.
Raducanu has had a propensity to chop and change coaches in her career to date. She had previously been working with Sebastian Sachs but the two split last year.
During her lengthy rehabilitation from surgery on both her wrists and ankle, she has been based at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton where she has been working with both Cavaday and O’Donoghue.
Raducanu, who plays Naomi Osaka in an exhibition match in Melbourne on Tuesday, said of Cavaday: “I’ve known Nick since I was 10 years old and he was helping me out the last week at the LTA. Before that, the LTA helped me a ton.”
Cavaday, 37, is a former player who has coached the likes of Aljaz Bedene and Dom Inglot.
