Emmanuel Latte Lath's Middlesbrough departure was confirmed this week as he moved to Atlanta United in a record transfer fee both for Middlesbrough and the MLS.

His exit ended an 18-month spell at Boro, in which time he managed an impressive 29 goals. A huge profit for Boro, his sale represents the direction that Boro have been wanting to go in since the arrival of Kieran Scott over three years ago. With Championship competitiveness so skewed because of parachute payements for clubs dropping out of the Premier League, Boro are using player trading as a means of boosting finances to be able to better invest in their squad.

As such, Latte Lath became the eighth player to be signed in the Michael Carrick era at Boro, and also to leave during it too. While many of the other seven are loan players whose time at the club ended naturally, there are two others who were fully contracted players. We take a look at the other seven and what they're up to now.

Cameron Archer

After Archer's hugely successful loan at Boro, he was snapped up by Sheffield United in August 2023 after their promotion to the Premier League. However, things didn't work out for Archer or the Blades and it emerged that, in the bizarre terms of the sale, he would be sold back to Aston Villa in the event of Sheffield United relegation.

That was what transpired, though the Villans quickly cast Archer off again, selling him to newly-promoted Southampton this time. But again, things aren't going swimmingly for the 23-year-old in the Premier League. He has only two goals in 21 top flight appearances this term, with the Saints firmly cut adrift at the bottom. Leeds United made attempts to sign him in January but it was Adam Armstrong when ended up leaving St Mary's.

Aaron Ramsey

Like his fellow Villa loanee, Ramsey also earned a permanent move from Villa Park after his Boro loan spell came to an end. He joined Burnley after their Premier League promotion. He made 17 appearances for the Clarets last season before suffering what was described as a serious knee injury last February that required him to be stretchered off. He's not played since8 but manager Scott Parker said he's 'edging closer' to a return last week.

Morgan Rogers

One of the permanent exits under Carrick, Rogers' Riverside stay ended up being brief. Signed in the summer of 2023 for a little over £1m, without ever really reaching his max potential on Teesside, he was being sold to Aston Villa just six months later in a deal worth up to £16m.

Given he spent much of his time at Boro struggling for starts until really hitting form the month before his exit, his ascent at Villa Park has been mightily impressive. He has six Premier League goals this season and recently scored a Champions League hat-trick against Celtic.

Luke Thomas

When Alex Bangura picked up a serious injury last January, before were forced into the market for a third left-back in six month after Giles's exit. They turned to FA Cup winner Luke Thomas, who had struggled in the first half of the season at Bramall Lane with Archer. However the Leicester loanee failed to impress at Boro and departed with little fanfare at the end of last term. Still at Leicester, he's made six appearances this term, including two Premier League starts.

Lewis O'Brien

O'Brien was considered a real coup signing when he joined Boro in the summer of 2023 but, somewhat summing up the story of the season, O'Brien suffered a seroius knee injury just six games in and it kept him out for much of the season. He did end the campaign strongly but didn't earn a permanent Boro move.

Instead, in the summer window the midfielder initially went back out on loan to Los Angeles. FC. He made 15 appearances for the MLS club before returning to Forest in December at the end of the season. He's now completed his fourth loan move away from the City Ground, joining Swansea City on transfer deadline day.

Sam Greenwood

What started as a really fruitful loan for Sam Greenwood at Boro - including last season's goal of the season in a victory over Leiceseter City - dramatically tailed off. With a purchase option included in the deal with Leeds United, it looked a no-brainer right up until November time when Greenwood's form dramatically declined.

Not taking up that option in the end, Greenwood left Leeds again on loan last summer, this time joining Preston North End. A regular for the Lilywhites, the 23-year-old has five goals and two assists so far this season.

Jamie Jones

At the start of last summer, Jamie Jones wasn't expected to be on this list. Boro's veteran third-choice keeper last season, he didn't make a single appearance, but was an important member of the Boro squad and a positive influence behind the scenes.

However, deciding he wanted more game time this term, Jones, 35, opted to leave at the end of his contract, joining League Two side Salford City on a free transfer. Starting the first 16 league games, he lost his place in the side to young Sunderland loanee Matty Young. Missing out on the next ten games, Jones has recently regained his place in the team, starting the last three.
