Who is the referee?
Frenchman Pierre Brousset will be taking charge of his first Six Nations match. The 35-year-old would have made his championship debut last year but injury ruled him out of whistling Ireland v Italy. Brousset refereed in last year’s Rugby Championship and the Autumn Nations Series.
“I tell myself that if I’ve reached this level, it’s because of my convictions and my personality,” said Brousset last year. “Of course, there’s no such thing as the perfect match. You can always evolve, always find things to change in the way you referee, in the way you manage the match. But I think the guiding principle should be the same, whether it’s a Pro D2 match or an international match.”
What is the team news?
England head coach Steve Borthwick was forced into a major reshuffle on the eve of the Six Nations with Jamie George, Alex Coles, Jack van Poortvliet and Alex Dombrandt lost to injury. Their absence means an opportunity for the uncapped Henry Pollock.
In a significant blow for Scotland and the British and Irish Lions, Sione Tuipulotu suffered a long-term injury while Scott Cummings was also ruled out of the Six Nations.
Both nations will be hoping for minimal injury trouble from their first two matches of the tournament.
