England levelled the series to set up a thrilling decider with a 186-run thrashing of Australia in the fourth ODI of the five-match series at Lord’s.

Liam Livingstone struck a rapid 62 at the end of England’s innings after rain delayed the start of play, forcing a shortened 39-over match, although the hosts secured victory with overs to spare.

Ben Duckett got England off to a solid start with the bat, hitting 63 runs, with Harry Brook coming close to repeating his magnificent century at the Riverside on Tuesday, but falling just 13 runs short with 87.

Liam Livingstone’s impressive display of power hitting, with seven sixes and three fours as he put on 62 from just 27 lifted England to what proved to be a match-winning total of 312.

England bowled expertly, after dismissing the opening partnership of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, the wickets tumbled quickly, as the Australians collapsed from 68 without loss to 96 for six and were unable to recover.

It was Australia’s first time back at Lord’s since Alex Carey’s infamous stumping of Jonny Bairstow during the Ashes, which led to ugly scenes in the Long Room between MCC members and touring players, but other than boos for the wicketkeeper when he came out to bat, there was none of the animosity of that affair.

Hazlewood out for 0! England win by 186 runs

20:17 , Sonia Twigg

Can Rashid wrap things up this over? Starc adds runs to the total with an under edge adding two more to the total.

Starc adds another single with one over point. And that’s that, Hazlewood goes for a big hit and the ball just crashes into the stumps.

Wicket! Carey out for 13! Wicket! Zampa out for 0! Australia 122-9 (24) Starc 2, Hazlewood 0, Potts 4-38 (8) - need 191 runs to win

20:14 , Sonia Twigg

Potts goes up for an lbw, Carey is struck on the pad and England have sent this one upstairs! It’s three reds and Carey has to go!

Adam Zampa comes out to the middle, and he has five balls to face of this over.

The first ball is just defended straight up the pitch. Zampa has gone! He goes for one over the top and it’s just caught comfortably by Livingstone.

Hazlewood joins Starc out in the middle.

Australia 122-7 (23) Carey 13, Starc 2, Rashid 0-7 (3) - need 191 runs to win

20:06 , Sonia Twigg

Starc comes out to bat alongside Carey and gets off the mark with a flick to a low full toss out to the leg side.

No idea what the plan is here from the Australians, is there anything to gain from just batting out the overs?

Wicket! Abbott out for 10! Australia 119-7 (22) Carey 12, Potts 2-38 (7) - need 194 runs to win

20:02 , Sonia Twigg

Potts beats the edge again and Carey survives without the ball catching the outside edge on 11.

The dots are building up here...and Jacks fumbles what could have turned into a run out chance. A well-timed drive from Abbott is stopped by a dive from mid on from Liam Livingstone.

Abbott does fine the middle of the next one and it has landed just over the rope for six. He tries to go for another big one and is caught by a backpeddling Livingstone and has to depart for just 10.

Australia 112-6 (21) Carey 11, Abbott 4, Rashid 0-4 (2) - need 201 runs to win

19:58 , Sonia Twigg

Rashid goes for the googly to Abbott but he plays it off the bottom edge. Abbott digs out another one to the fielder and he’s just starting to look frustrated.

Australia are at a bit of a crossroads here, Abbott goes for a big swing, misses and the ball goes straight through to the keeper.

Australia 110-6 (19) Carey 10, Abbott 4, Potts 1-31 (6) - need 202 runs to win

19:55 , Sonia Twigg

Potts has come back on from the Pavilion End, and Australia are just tapping the ball around for singles without trying to take anything on.

Australia 105-6 (19) Carey 7, Abbott 3, Rashid 0-3 (1) - need 207 runs

19:51 , Sonia Twigg

After 18 overs of the second innings, England turn to spinner Adil Rashid for the first time.

The first ball is just turned away for a single, and there is an appeal for the stumping of Abbott, which the umpires have sent upstairs. His foot was just over the line and he has been handed a reprieve.

The weather outside has turned cold after the sunset and anyone who didn’t bring blankets might be wishing they had.

Australia 102-6 (18) Carey 6, Abbott 2, Archer 2-31 (7) - need 210 runs to win

19:45 , Sonia Twigg

Archer is into his seventh over, and has two wickets to show for it.

Abbott and Carey seem content to just add singles to the total. Archer continues to cause problems as one just goes straight off the toe of Carey’s bat and misses the wicket.

Australia 101-6 (17) Carey 5, Abbott 1, Carse 3-36 (6) - need 212 runs to win

19:42 , Sonia Twigg

Carse will keep bowling from the Nursery End, he’s into his sixth over. He tries a short ball but it’s too short and rightly called a wide.

Australia have gone into their shell following the loss of wickets and no longer trying the counter attack method employed by Smith and Maxwell, who have both gone back to the dressing room.

Abbott gets a run but it’s a streaky outside edge too wide for the slips.

Wicket! Glenn Maxwell out for 2! Australia 96-6 (16) Carey 2, Abbott 0, Archer 2-31 (6) - need 217 to win

19:38 , Sonia Twigg

Carey has edged the ball but it bounced just in front of Duckett at slip. Maxwell gets the next one away to add a couple.

Australia have a big rebuilding job to get anywhere close to getting something out of this game now.

But Maxwell has gone! He goes for a big swipe and has been caught behind! Another wicket tumbles and Australia are really struggling here.

Wicket! Josh Inglis out for 8! Wicket! Marnus Labuschagne out for 4! Australia 93-5 (15) Carey 1, Maxwell 0, Caarse 3-31 (5) - need 220 to win

19:29 , Sonia Twigg

Inglis goes for a scoop down towards fine leg, he’s hit it nicely and will get just the two runs from it.

Inglis goes for a cover drive, but he can’t get it over the fielder! It’s well taken by a jumping Will Jacks.

Alex Carey is booed as he makes his way out onto the field at Lord’s for his first match at the Home of Cricket since his infamous involvement at the ground in the 2023 Ashes.

Carey is off the mark first ball, driving down the ground for a single.

Carse strikes again! Labuschagne is out for just four! He has bowled the Australian batter.

Australia 89-3 (14) Labuschagne 4, Inglis 6, Archer 1-28 (5) - need 224 to win

19:21 , Sonia Twigg

Archer bowls to Labuschagne, who after being hit in the last over, defends straight back to the bowler.

The next one is an inside edge into the body and almost drops in front of him. A short ball is paddled away by Labuschagne for a single.

Wicket! Marsh out for 28! Australia 82-3 (12) Labuschagne 1, Inglis 3, Archer 1-23 (4) - need 231 runs to win

19:13 , Sonia Twigg

Archer has bowled Marsh! It’s a stunning ball that just goes past the outside edge and crashes into the stumps, what a beauty and it has been rewarded. Three quick wickets for England!

Laubschagne has been struck on the arm and the ball just bounces off, he goes down afterwards and that will be sore!

The physio races out on to the field and straps up the arm.

Labuschagne lets the ball go and it just goes over the stumps, at 93mph!

Australia 79-2 (11) Marsh 28, Inglis 2, Carse 1-25 (3) - need 234 runs to win

19:03 , Sonia Twigg

Brydon Carse, who claimed the crucial wicket of Travis Head, is back on to bowl to the new batter Inglis, he gets off the mark by turning the ball off his hip for two.

Inglis chases one outside the off stump and misses, there are heads in hands behind the bat.

Wicket! Steve Smith out for 5! Australia 75-2 (10) Marsh 28, Inglis 0, Potts 1-28 (5) - need 237 runs to win

19:00 , Sonia Twigg

Potts will continue, Marsh has struck it hard but to the fielder on the boundary. Smith has timed it perfectly through extra cover to get off the mark with a boundary.

Potts fires it wide outside the off stump, but just inside the blue tramlines. Smith comes down the wicket and is caught behind off the inside edge!

Travis Head out for 34! Australia 68-1 (9) Marsh 25, Smith 0, Carse 1-21 (2) - need 245 to win

18:54 , Sonia Twigg

Carse’s first over went for 19, but his second starts with a dot, the fielding restrictions changing after the powerplay might come into England’s favour now.

Head drives without and timing and just picks up a single. Marsh cuts away and it’s a great stop on the boundary by Phil Salt, almost just blocking it with his body on the rope.

Carse strikes! Travis Head is bowled! It was a good ball, straight and hits the top of leg stump.

Boos greet Steve Smith as he comes out to the crease. He’s beaten by the first ball which just carves him up, it was a lovely delivery.

Australia 66-0 (8) Marsh 24, Head 33, Potts 0-21 (4) - need 247 to win.

18:49 , Sonia Twigg

Potts has changed ends and will bowl from the pavilion end, he raps Marsh on the pads and there’s an appeal, but England have not reviewed the decision.

Marsh fires another straight drive down the ground for four.

Australia 60 (7) Marsh 20, Head 32, Carse 0-19 (1) - need 253 to win

18:43 , Sonia Twigg

Brydon Carse replaces Potts and Marsh just tucks the ball away for a single the first ball of his spell.

Carse goes short and Head just top-edges it for four, there was just one fielder out on the leg side at backwards square and that has gone a lot finer than that.

Head throws his hands at another and completely misses the ball, and Head cracks the next one over extra cover for four.

Australia have their 50 up already! He follows it up with the biggest six of the day so far, that has gone over the mound stand and out into the road!

The final ball of the over is flicked past fine leg for four.

Australia 41-0 (6) Marsh 19, Head 14, Archer 0-20 (3) - need 272 runs to win

18:38 , Sonia Twigg

Archer bowls, Head swishes and misses the ball, the next one he manages to race through for a single.

Marsh carves Archer away over backward point for four with a perfect cut shot.

He digs out a full ball for another single.

The final ball of the over is only partially stopped at midwicket, it’s a missfield and allows a couple of runs.

England 33-0 (5) Marsh 14, Head 11, Potts 0-16 (3) - need 280 to win

18:33 , Sonia Twigg

Marsh has pulled a length ball from Potts straight into the stands to double his tally.

He adds another couple with a dab down to third man.

Marsh charges and swings but misses the ball.

Australia 25-0 (4) Marsh 6, Head 11, Archer 0-12 (2) - need 288 runs to win

18:29 , Sonia Twigg

Archer again beats Head, a touch under 90mph, and it has gone past the outside edge.

Head turns the ball off his hip for a single from Archer, who will have a chance to bowl at Marsh.

Archer makes a big appeal for lbw but there’s nothing from any other player or the umpire and Head has driven him down the ground for four.

Australia 19-0 (3) Marsh 6, Head 6, Potts 0-8 (2) - need 294 to win

18:25 , Sonia Twigg

Potts’ first ball again drifts too far leg-side and it flicks off the pad for four leg byes, but he follows it up with a straighter dot ball.

Marsh is struck on the pad again, no chance of a wicket, but he doesn’t look entirely comfortable.

Two more dots to finish the over and that was better from Potts.

Australia 15-0 (2), Marsh 6, Head 6, Archer 0-7 (1)

18:21 , Sonia Twigg

Jofra Archer will bowl from the pavilion end, and the short-ball field has been set up with two in the slips.

The first ball hits Marsh awkwardly and drops to the ground, the second is top-edged straight into the air, Smith and Jacks run after it but the keeper doesn’t go for it, and Jacks can’t get there. It probably should have been Smith’s.

The next ball is hit away for six, stunning shot from Head for his first runs of the innings, into his pads and launched into the stands.

A lovely ball from Archer just goes past the outside edge of Head’s bat and narrowly misses the off stump.

Australia 8-0 (1) Marsh 5, Head 0, Potts 0-8 (1)

18:16 , Sonia Twigg

Matthew Potts starts the second innings from the Nursery End and Marsh is off the mark straight away with a couple of runs.

Potts goes wayward and is flagged up for a wide. He bowls outside the off stump, there’s an edge but wide of slip and it brings more runs.

But there are three wides in the over. There’s a big lbw appeal, everyone goes up, but there was no review.

England set Australia 313 to win

18:00 , Sonia Twigg

Livingstone smashed 20 from the final over to take his total to 62 from just 27 balls, to cap off an impressive innings for England after they lost the toss and were put in to bat.

Ben Duckett made a useful 60-odd, Brook 87, but Livingstone’s power-hitting at the end of the innings took them past the 300 mark.

Livingstone 50! England 312-5 (39) Livingstone 62, Bethell 12

17:51 , Sonia Twigg

Livingstone has smashed another six to move into the 40s! He backed himself to read the yorker and went straight down the ground.

The next ball is short and Livingstone misses the pull shot!

He picks the next one up and launches it into the mound stand for six, he is striking perfectly, on to 46...

Another one! He brings up his half century with another six into the pavilion, that also brings up England’s 300.

His 52 comes from just 25 balls with six sixes and two fours. Another one! He picks out the second tier of the tavern stand.

This is incredible power-hitting from Liam Livingstone. He breaks the pattern with the final ball of the innings, but it’s still a boundary.

Four sixes and a four from the final over as England move on to 312 for 5 from their 39 overs.

England 284-5 (38) Livingstone 34, Bethell 12, Hazlewood 1-40 (8)

17:45 , Sonia Twigg

The ball goes narrowly past Bethell’s bat and Australia have reviewed it after a discussion with a couple of seconds left.

Ultra edge on DRS showed no spike as the ball went past the bat, so no reviews remaining for Australia, but there are just 11 balls left in the innings.

Livingstone tries to create room outside the off stump and ends up letting it go, but the next one has been driven straight back down the ground for four.

England 278-5 (37) Livingstone 29, Bethell 12, Starc 0-42 (7)

17:40 , Sonia Twigg

Starc will return from the pavilion end, he will run from shadow into sunlight, that doesn’t seem to have bothered Bethell who drives up to long off for a single.

Livingstone has launched the ball down the ground for six over long off, he has picked the ball up so well today.

Livingstone has driven it back to Starc and struck him on the hand in his follow through, it was well-stopped but with the cold out there it might have hurt.

England 269-5 (35) Livingstone 23, Bethell 10, Hazlewood 1-35 (7)

17:36 , Sonia Twigg

Four overs left, likely to be Hazlewood and Starc. Bethell swats Hazlewood into the leg side for a single.

Livingstone tries a dab with two inside the circle behind the bat, but misses the ball and it goes through to Inglis.

The bowler goes full and Livingstone smashes the ball over deep midwicket and well into the stands!

Hazlewood goes short, missed by Livingstone and it has been called a wide. The next ball thuds into Livingstone’s helmet and trickles into the leg side and they run a single, it’s called a leg bye.

Livingstone just having a brief pause while his helmet is looked at.

England 258-5 (35) Livingstone 16, Bethell 8, Zampa 2-66 (8)

17:29 , Sonia Twigg

Zampa is now into his last over, Bethell tries to guide the ball up to long on, but it’s straight at Zampa and he has struggled to score today.

The second one is another dot straight to the bowler. Bethell has two runs from nine deliveries.

But all of that pressure is released with a stunning reverse-sweep for six!

Five dot balls and a six from the over.

England 252-5 (34) Livingstone 16, Bethell 2, Maxwell 1-30 (3)

17:26 , Sonia Twigg

Livingstone launches Maxwell into the grandstand! That sounded so good off the bat, it drops into the stands, from outside the off stump into the leg side, a mammoth hit.

England 244-5 (33) Livingstone 9, Bethell 1, Zampa 2-60 (7)

17:23 , Sonia Twigg

Zampa is into his seventh over, but there’s a lot of tinkering with the field.

The brief period of drizzle seems to have abated. Bethell defends the first two balls, and tries a sweep the first but top-edges it straight along the ground to the bowler.

Bethell gets off the mark with a heave into the leg side for a single.

Smith out for 39! England 241-5 (32) Livingstone 7, Bethell 0, Maxwell 1-22 (2)

17:19 , Sonia Twigg

Maxwell will bowl, Smith goes big and over his head, but it’s stopped again on the boundary by Sean Abbott. It’s his fourth consecutive 2.

Maxwell has potentially taken a bit of pace of it after his expensive first over, but Livingstone has a four, it has just gone out of reach of Smith, and the rain has started to fall.

Livingstone tries to hit the ball so hard, another glove, it flies over short third for a couple.

Smith has gone! He hits the ball straight to backward point and has to depart for 39!

Wicket! Brook out for 87! England 232-4 (31) Smith 36, Livingstone 1, Zampa 2-57 (6)

17:15 , Sonia Twigg

Harry Brook’s impressive innings has come to an end! He launched the ball from Zampa into the air and it was well-caught and judged by a diving Glenn Maxwell.

He finished with 87 from just 58 deliveries including important partnerships with Duckett and Smith.

Livingstone gets off the mark with a drive up to long on.

Smith sweeps straight-ish for another boundary but it has just been cut off before going over the rope by Labuschagne, and there’s another dive at deep extra cover from Alex Carey.

England 224-3 (30) Brook 87, Smith 29, Hazlewood 1-25 (6)

17:10 , Sonia Twigg

Labuschagne got just the one over, with Hazlewood coming back into the attack from the Nursery End, and he’s been scooped for four the first ball of the over!

Brook turns the ball off his hip through square leg for another four. He has batted exceptionally so far today.

A no ball from the final over allows England another chance to score runs, Hazlewood has bowled a few of them this series, but it’s a solid yorker that just goes between pad and leg stump.

Nine overs left of the first innings.

England 213-3 (29) Brook 78, Smith 28, Abbott 0-62 (7)

17:04 , Sonia Twigg

Smith hauls across the line for another boundary.

Overthrows! Smith just managed to get his foot in the crease, the ball ricochets off the stumps and away for four runs after the throw from Inglis.

A bizarre passage of play!

England 201-3 (28) Brook 71, Smith 23, Labuschagne 0-10 (1)

16:59 , Sonia Twigg

Labuschagne comes on to bowl, his first ball is a low full toss, swatted away to long on but only for a single.

The next ball is launched over the covers right in front of the media centre for a big six from Smith, his second six of the innings.

Another low full toss is just kept in by Abbott on the boundary and that brings up the 200 for England.

England 191-3 (27) Brook 70, Smith 14, Zampa 1-49 (5)

16:56 , Sonia Twigg

Zampa has been expensive in his first four overs, but started this one a bit tighter.

Brook tries a sweep but doesn’t get hold of it, and that was a better bowler from the spinner.

England 183-3 (26) Brook 64, Smith 12, Abbott 0-50 (6)

16:52 , Sonia Twigg

Abbott bowls, and again it’s bouncing twice before reaching the goalkeeper. Smith pulls the ball high and out into the leg side, but it drops just short of Maxwell.

He then fires one down the leg side and the ball goes through Inglis for a bonus couple of runs, he tries a bouncer and it’s pulled comfortably by Smith towards square leg.

Brook chases one down leg, gloves it but wide of the wicketkeeper and he will pick up four more runs for it.

England 171-3 (25) Brook 59, Smith 8, Zampa 1-41 (4)

16:48 , Sonia Twigg

Smith has smashed Zampa for a massive six the first ball of his over! He’s almost chosen the furthest corner of the ground up in front of the Allen Stand, but he has nailed it.

Much more comfortable runs than his opener, and Brook has added another massive hit into the Tavern! He goes back and plays it perfectly.

Brook 50! England 156-3 (24) Brook 51, Smith 1, Marsh 1-27 (4)

16:44 , Sonia Twigg

Mitchell Marsh will bowl after Maxwell’s short-lived spell. Brook drives the first one, it’s well-parried by Hazlewood to prevent a boundary.

Smith comes down the pitch and gets off the mark with an inside edge off the pad that darts into the off side.

Brook brings up his half century with a well-timed dap down through point for two.

Duckett out for 63! England 150-3 (23) Brook 46, Smith 0, Zampa 1-26 (3)

16:39 , Sonia Twigg

Duckett has been caught at deep backwards square! He top-edged a sweep and was caught just off the boundary rope off Adam Zampa.

He has scored a half century, but falls short of the three figures again. That could be a really crucial wicket for Australia.

England 145-2 (22) Duckett 59, Brook 45, Maxwell 0-13 (1)

16:34 , Sonia Twigg

Glenn Maxwell replaces Zampa and gets it completely wrong and fires it down leg, the second one is just played into the off side.

Aside from the first delivery, Maxwell has cramped the batters more than Zampa, but there’s a second wide down the leg side, and the next one has been guided away for four down the slope.

Brook follows it up with a flick through square leg and he has another boundary for it!

England 132-2 (21) Duckett 58, Brook 35, Abbott 0-38 (5)

16:29 , Sonia Twigg

Abbott to continue, Duckett has gone for the ramp shot and nailed it for four! He has hit it fine, no change for the fine leg fielder and it was timed well.

Another couple, Brook pulls in the air but it goes wide of the midwicket fielder.

England 122-2 (20) Duckett 53, Brook 31, Zampa 0-21 (2)

16:25 , Sonia Twigg

Brook has smashed one through the off side for four, he has found the gap between cover and mid off, it was tossed up by Zampa and well-struck by the England captain.

He follows it up with another one through a similar area, the first one was driven, the second cut but the outcome was the same.

England 114-2 (19) Duckett 53, Brook 22, Abbott 0-29 (4)

16:21 , Sonia Twigg

Sean Abbott is back on from the Pavilion End, his first three overs were expensive, going for 25 runs in total.

Duckett tries to be innovative, plays the scoop and misses, attempting to launch the ball over the wicketkeeper.

The next one is cut through backward point but stopped by Zampa on the boundary.

Duckett clears his front leg and tries to hit it back to the bowler but he lacks all timing and the ball goes into the ground then into the hands of Abbott.

Duckett 50! England 109-2 (18) Duckett 50, Brook 20, Zampa 0-12 (1)

16:17 , Sonia Twigg

After the drinks break it will be time for Adam Zampa to replace Mitchell Marsh from the Nursery End.

The most any bowler can bowl with the reduced overs is 8, and England have brought their hundred up inside the 18th over.

Brook and Duckett have so far just tapped the ball around for singles, but in the fourth ball of the over, Duckett has charged down the wicket and launched Zampa over deep mid on for six!

He follows it up with a single next ball to bring up his half century.

England 97-2 (17) Duckett 40, Brook 18, Starc 0-34 (6)

16:10 , Sonia Twigg

Starc is into the second over of his second spell from the Pavilion End, and is picking up where he started, just limiting England’s scoring options.

Starc goes for a big appeal for caught behind, and it has been given by the umpire, Brook is considering having a look and has reviewed the decision.

Could this be another controversy at Lord’s? The crowd are booing because the replay looks like the ball has bounced just before reaching Inglis’ gloves and it has been given not out.

England 92-2 (16) Duckett 37, Brook 16, Marsh 1-21 (3)

16:04 , Lawrence Ostlere

Harry Brook is in the mood! He begins Marsh’s latest over with a crack through mid-wicket for four, and he adds another boundary through a similar area with a beautifully timed clip off the legs, full of natural power.

Brook then tries a scoop shot which he misses completely, and is called a wide, before ending the over with a dot.

England 81-2 (15) Duckett 36, Brook 7, Starc 0-29 (5)

16:00 , Lawrence Ostlere

Starc begins with a gift that Brook can push away to safety off his hip for four.

Duckett and Brook rack up a flurry of runs as they keep the strike rotating, much to Starc’s frustration, who is struggling to generate any swing.

England 72-2 (14) Duckett 33, Brook 1, Marsh 1-10 (2)

15:55 , Lawrence Ostlere

Harry Brook pinches a quick single to end the over and get off the mark.

Mitchell Starc is immediately thrown the ball to try and take out the England captain.

Wicket! Jacks out for 10! England 71-2

15:53 , Lawrence Ostlere

Will Jacks slices uncomfortably over point which lands safely in no man’s land, worth a couple of runs, but a moment later he tries a similar drive and this time he’s caught at gully. A little reckless, that, though credit goes to Marsh for finding a little bit of away swing.

England 69-1 (13) Duckett 33, Jacks 8, Abbott 0-24 (3)

15:49 , Lawrence Ostlere

Will Jacks pushes Abbott casually through the leg side for four, and Duckett tries to get in on the act, swiping through thin air at a wide-ish delivery.

England have a steady 69 runs on the board through 13 overs – one third of the innings – with one wicket lost.

“With 39 overs, it’s difficult to know exactly what a good target is,” says Stuart Broad on commentary.

England 63-1 (12) Duckett 32, Jacks 3, Marsh 0-7 (1)

15:45 , Lawrence Ostlere

Mitch Marsh brings himself into the bowling attack. Jacks takes a quick single before Marsh throws in a wide, still tweaking his radar.

A too-full, too-wide ball is dealt with by Duckett, cracked over mid-off for four.

England 56-1 (11) Duckett 27, Jacks 2, Abbott 0-18 (2)

15:41 , Lawrence Ostlere

Abbott appeals vociferously after the ball crashed into Duckett’s back pad, but the umpire isn’t interested. The bowler persuades captain Marsh to review it, but the ball pitched outside leg and Australia lose their review.

Duckett finishes the over with a half-volley punched down the ground for four.

Wicket! Salt out for 22! England 49-1 (10) Duckett 21, Jacks 1, Hazlewood 1-14 (5)

15:33 , Sonia Twigg

Hazlewood will stay on from the Nursery End so it won’t be a double bowling change, and Duckett almost leaves himself stranded when the pushes the ball into the ground on the off side, but is sent back to the crease by Salt.

Duckett is struck on the pad next ball, but only Hazlewood appeals and the umpire thought there was an inside edge as he adds another single to his and England’s total.

Wicket! Salt has gone! He drives hard towards backward point and it has been caught, it was a thick outside edge and taken at knee height!

England had just been building on a slow but steady start but that will have dented their momentum!

Jacks get off the mark straight away with a single into the off side.

England 47-0 (9) Salt 22, Duckett 22, Abbott 0-11 (1)

15:27 , Sonia Twigg

Change of bowling and Abbott is into the attack, and Salt slaps him through backward point, a boundary that is cheered and it feels a long time since the last one.

The next one is also cut away through the same area and hit hard by Salt, that feels like it’s relieved a bit of pressure that had been building from the opening bowling partnership.

A very expensive over from Abbott, 12 from his opening over.

England 35-0 (8) Salt 13, Duckett 19, Hazlewood 0-13 (4)

15:22 , Sonia Twigg

Still no change of bowler in sight, as Hazlewood continues. Duckett looks more comfortable now against the left-handed Starc and he offers no width.

Duckett plays a smart cut shot, but it’s straight to backward point, and another one he tries to play but it’s straight into the ground.

England 33-0 (7) Salt 12, Duckett 18, Starc 0-20 (4)

15:18 , Sonia Twigg

Starc will continue from the Pavilion End, England’s run rate so far in this powerplay, which is expected to last eight overs.

The Australian bowler appeals loudly when Duckett is rapped on the pads, and it will be sent upstairs. The England opener will remain at the crease with DRS shown the ball on umpires call for height as it goes over middle stump.

The next ball is fired down the leg side and gives England the first extras of the innings, Duckett then slaps the next one through mid off, beating Labuschagne and bringing another boundary.

He follows it up with one through mid on the next ball for three.

Salt has got the ball through Maxwell! He is one of the best fielders in the game but goes down and can only parry that one that bounces behind for a single at backward point.

England 23-0 (6) Salt 11, Duckett 10, Hazlewood 0-11 (3)

15:11 , Sonia Twigg

Hazlewood bowls to Salt who pushes it through backward point for another couple. England have not got going so far, but there is a long time left in this match, even with the reduced overs.

Salt thrashes the ball over second slip for four, it was hit over Steve Smith and he couldn’t quite get his hands there.

Hazlewood follows it up with one that just beats the outside edge, and a punch off the back foot that is stopped in the ring.

England 17-0 (5) Salt 5, Duckett 10, Starc 0-10 (3)

15:07 , Sonia Twigg

Salt thrashes a drive square, but he doesn’t get the rewards and it’s stopped by Maxwell at backward point.

Salt has whacked one straight back at Starc, it has crashed into the bowler’s foot and deflected off his shin for a couple of runs.

England 14-0 (4) Salt 2, Duckett 10, Hazlewood 0-5 (2)

15:02 , Sonia Twigg

Hazlewood’s first over was a maiden, and Duckett is just struggling to get him away.

After eight deliveries he had yet to go for any runs, but the next ball he adds to his tally with a quick tuck around the corner for another couple to take England into double figures in the fourth over.

But immediately afterwards he follows it up with one that just goes past the outside edge

A short ball is well pulled away by Duckett for England’s first boundary of the innings and Alex Carey chases it in his unfamiliar position in the field.

England 7-0 (3) Salt 1, Duckett 6, Starc 0-7 (2)

14:58 , Sonia Twigg

Starc bowls and Duckett drives hard straight back at the bowler, it was a very difficult chance but has been put down and the Australian bowler is there wringing his hand out.

His line and length have been so difficult for both openers and they are struggling to score anything here. Another one goes straight past the outside edge.

Duckett slices one up and over the slips, it was a bit wider and bounces before the man on the boundary, it took him a while to get off the mark, 8 deliveries, but the first sign of width has brought rewards.

He follows it up with another two to long leg, and another pair into the covers.

England 1-0 (2), Salt 1, Duckett 0, Hazlewood 0-0 (1)

14:54 , Sonia Twigg

Hazlewood will bowl from the Nursery End, the first two balls of the over just go past the outside edge of Phil Salt’s bat.

He has bowled the ideal line and length so far, and the next one goes straight through the England opener.

Salt struck on the pad, comes out of his crease, the ball bobbles behind him as all the players rush towards the wicket, but he is able to get back and put his bat down.

England 1-0 (1), Salt 1, Duckett 0, Starc 0-1 (1)

14:49 , Sonia Twigg

Starc will kick things off from the pavilion end with ball in hand to bowl against Phil Salt, who manages to tuck one away behind square for the first runs of the England innings.

The single brings Duckett on strike, who has to crab-like dig out a yorker first up, the next one shows a bit of movement and has just defended it into the off side.

On the other side, the sun has been applauded as it comes out from behind the clouds for the first time today. It’s not clear where the blue sky is coming from, but clearly it’s there.

The final ball of the over beats the outside edge of Duckett’s bat on its way through to the wicketkeeper.

14:26 , Sonia Twigg

The stumps are going back into the ground, the last of the covers have come off and we are just waiting for an official start time, and to find out how many overs have been lost with the more than two hour delay.

Weather update: The covers are moving

14:17 , Sonia Twigg

The super-sopper has stopped and the covers are starting to come off for a second time at Lord’s, but the sky is quite grey over towards Maida Vale, and the rain has not gone far away.

The three umpires in their pink tops and black trousers have come out onto the field to inspect the pitch.

Weather update: Drizzle falls at Lord’s

14:07 , Sonia Twigg

As soon as the covers went on the rain was the heaviest it had been all day.

Currently it is showing no signs of abating, but the ground staff are working hard and the super-sopper has just come onto the field to try and mop up some of the additional moisture.

Weather update: Bad news at Lord’s

13:49 , Sonia Twigg

It’s bad news at Lord’s just 12 minutes before the game was due to start and the covers have gone back on, the stumps have come out of the ground and it looks like there will be another delay.

Here is a reminder of the England team:

Toss: Australia win and choose to bowl

13:31 , Sonia Twigg

Australia have won the toss and Mitchell Marsh has -unsurprisingly - declared they will have a bowl first in the grey overcast conditions at Lord’s.

Adam Zampa, Josh Inglis and Travis Head come into the side in place of Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie and Matt Short.

Toss update: 1.30pm

13:19 , Sonia Twigg

The covers are now fully off, the toss will take place at 1.30pm and the match will start at 2pm.

Toss at 1.30

13:19 , Harry Latham-Coyle

Good news from Lord’s - assuming there is no further rain, the toss will take place at 1.30pm BST.

43 overs a side. Eoin Morgan says the pitch looks good and firm, with the famous drainage system doing the job on the outfield, too.

Weather update: The covers are coming off

12:58 , Sonia Twigg

It’s looking a lot more optimistic than it was even half an hour ago, the umpires are out and the covers are being taken off.

Weather update: The covers are moving

12:42 , Sonia Twigg

For the first time today since the ground opened, there is sign of movement and the covers are being slowly rolled up.

We are a long way from actually getting any play underway, but it is a good start.

Weather update: The drizzle continues

12:25 , Sonia Twigg

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the covers are still well and truly on and unmoved and it is continuing to drizzle fairly consistently at Lord’s.

No sign of play in the immediate future, but hopefully it will brighten up this afternoon.

England captain Brook clears up ‘who cares’ comment

12:12 , Lawrence Ostlere

Brook raised eyebrows with some of his comments after England’s loss in the series opener in Nottingham, reflecting on some loose dismissals by saying: “If you get caught somewhere on the boundary or in the field then who cares?”.

Some interpreted that as a flippant approach to what is being billed – and priced – as an elite contest, but he suggested there had been a misunderstanding of his words.

“I think people took that a little bit the wrong way. You’ve got to go out and play fearlessly and almost have that ‘who cares?’ attitude but that’s not a ‘who cares if we lose?’ attitude,” he said.

“We all want to win, but you don’t want to go out and have that fear of getting out. You’ve seen it so many times in the Test environment, at the start Stokesy (captain Ben Stokes) was getting out caught at mid-on which is unheard of before, so you’ve got to go out with that fearless attitude and try to take it to the bowlers.”

Weather update: The toss has been officially delayed

12:03 , Sonia Twigg

The toss should have taken place at 12pm all going smoothly, but it has been delayed, no idea how long for so far as he rain has not let up.

Weather update: Drizzling rain at Lord’s

11:57 , Lawrence Ostlere

It is drizzling at Lord’s right now and that could spell bad news for this fourth ODI, but there’s been no update for the past couple of hours, so 12.30pm is still the official start time...

Harry Brook ‘relieved’ to record first ODI century

11:48 , Lawrence Ostlere

“I’m relieved, for sure. It’s just nice to see some rewards,” Brook said. “I’m just glad I managed to play the way I wanted to. It’s nice to get that first hundred on the board and hopefully there’s plenty more to come.

“I feel like I’ve been a little bit stop-start this summer, I’ve had a lot of starts – 30s and 40s – and then not managed to convert, which is frustrating. To do that, I feel like I’m back in a good place. Obviously it’s nice to score runs against Australia but scoring runs is amazing no matter who it is against.”

Third ODI report: Relief for Harry Brook as maiden hundred sets up much-needed win

11:32 , Lawrence Ostlere

Harry Brook breathed a major sigh of relief after chalking up his first ODI century and a first win as England captain on a memorable day in Durham on Tuesday.

After heavy losses to Australia at Trent Bridge and Headingley, England knew nothing less than victory would be enough to keep themselves in the five-match series and Brook’s masterful innings delivered.

Coming to the crease at 11 for two after both openers had fallen to Mitchell Starc, he peeled off a sensational 110 not out. Rain meant England were unable to complete their pursuit of 305 but the hosts still walked away with a 46-run win on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern thanks to Brook’s brilliance and a stand of 156 with Will Jacks (84).

Weather update: Play still set to go ahead at 12.30pm

11:27 , Lawrence Ostlere

The rain covers are on at Lord’s right now as groundstaff try to protect the middle from what has been a wet morning so far in London. The forecast is relatively dry for the afternoon, though, and as things stand play is set to go ahead at the slightly unusual start time of 12.30pm.

England v Australia – fourth ODI

11:20 , Lawrence Ostlere

It’s all to play for in the fourth ODI on Friday after England’s rain-affected victory kept the series against Australia alive (12.30pm, Sky Sports Main Event).

Skipper Harry Brook was in fine form in Durham on Tuesday, with an unbeaten 110, and was guiding his side to what looked like a certain victory before the rain came at the Riverside.

England were well ahead of the DLS score courtesy of Brook’s innings along with a vital 84 from Will Jacks, allowing the hosts to complete a 46-run victory via DLS and a win at Lord’s today will tie the series with one left to play.
