Eddie Jones is hoping to build on England’s dominant victory over Tonga by downing Australia at Twickenham.

The Aussies are fresh off a tight defeat to Scotland and contend with this Cook Cup contest without a number of key players.

Despite Joe Marler’s Covid-19 absence, the hosts are bolstered by the return of Owen Farrell and the momentum of that 11-try demolition job last weekend.

England have put together a record seven consecutive wins over Australia, which has proven ample revenge for their nightmare 2015 World Cup defeat, and can make it two from two in the Autumn Nations Series in this Test.

England vs Australia date, time and venue

England vs Australia team news

England will be without Joe Marler after his positive test for coronavirus, with a replacement prop incoming after discussions inside Jones’ camp. Ellis Genge also tested positive and is in self-isolation.

Farrell’s return will force the coach into picking between his captain, last weekend’s starter George Furbank, and super sub Marcus Smith. The latter’s leg injury could take him out of the equation to start at Twickenham.

Smith and Farrell could start in 10-12 but that would mean sacrificing Manu Tuilagi or Henry Slade at centre.

Raffi Quirke is an option to start at scrum-half for his first cap.

For the visitors, Jordan Petaia is out with a hamstring injury and Taniela Tupou a doubt following concussion in the defeat to Scotland. Samu Kerevi, Quade Cooper and Sean McMahon withdrew before the series.

England vs Australia prediction

With Farrell back and home support behind them, England should have enough in the tank to claim the win.

The Aussies haven’t won the Cook Cup since 2012, with their only win since upsetting England’s home World Cup hopes in 2015. With the hosts on a seven-game winning run, expect that to turn to eight on Saturday.

England win.
