England vs Bosnia LIVE! Result, match stream and latest updates after Euro 2024 warm-up friendly
England brushed aside Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday night in the first of two final warm-up friendlies for Euro 2024. Eberechi Eze aside, a second-string Three Lions unit mostly flattered to deceive in a largely turgid first half at Newcastle’s St James’ Park, but turned up the tempo after the break to eventually win at a canter.
First Cole Palmer netted his first senior international goal from the penalty spot on his first England start after a foul on Ezri Konsa that was awarded after a VAR check. England then got impressive cameos off the bench from the likes of Harry Kane, James Maddison and Jack Grealish, the latter of whom teed up Trent Alexander-Arnold for a sweet volley five minutes from time.
There was still time for Kane to add further gloss to the scorline from close range, with Gareth Southgate’s team now moving on to face Iceland at Wembley on Friday night before the manager has to deliver his final 26-man Euros squad ahead of the Group C opener against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on June 16. Follow England vs Bosnia reaction live below, with expert analysis from Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick and Malik Ouzia at St James’ Park!

Excellent Eze takes England chance
22:50 , George Flood
In a week in which Gareth Southgate faces twin objectives - namely sculpting his first-choice Euro 2024 team and trimming his provisional squad of 33 to 26 - this was an evening explicitly geared towards the latter, writes Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia.
Of the XI picked to start this 3-0 friendly win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first of two warm-ups before England fly to Germany, only goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could be sure of a starting place for the opening group game against Serbia in just under a fortnight’s time, with plenty of the rest uncertain as to whether or not they might be on their summer holidays by then.
Southgate, though, had insisted that this was not a trial in itself, suggesting the makeup of his ideal squad is already fairly clear in his mind, injury not withstanding.
That may be just as well: having decided against giving debuts to any of the five uncapped players in his squad from the start, this did not have the feel of an evening on which any of the outsiders and hopefuls dramatically moved the dial.

England player ratings
22:46 , George Flood
Subs
Harry Kane (Watkins 62’) 8
Immediately offered England more of a focal point in attack and went close with a fierce long-range effort before a poacher’s finish in the box added to his goal tally.
James Maddison (Eze 62’) 7
Sharp and made the third goal with a cut-back. Still, Eze’s performance meant he may ultimately be one of the night’s losers.
Adam Wharton (Trippier 62’) 7
Composed on his debut, albeit in relatively low-pressure circumstances. Clearly comfortable receiving possession in tight areas.
Jarrad Branthwaite (Guehi 62’) 6
Comfortable on the ball but had no defending to do as England dominated the final half an hour. Booked.
Jack Grealish (Palmer 62’) 8
Made the second goal with a brilliant ball for Alexander-Arnold and also involved in the build-up to the third. A timely reminder of his quality.
Joe Gomez (Dunk 73’) 6
Solid in a late run out but feels behind Konsa in the race to be England’s utility man at the back.

Starters
Jordan Pickford 6
Did not have a serious save to make. If we’re nit-picking, he fluffed one kick and flapped at one corner.
Ezri Konsa 7
A threat at attacking set-pieces and won England’s penalty when he was dragged down by his shirt.
Earlier had an effort parried by goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj in an encouraging run out. Started at right-back, finished at centre-back – his versatility is an asset.
Marc Guehi 5
Lost possession with a loose pass leading to a Bosnian chance late in the first half in a slightly jittery showing. Booked.
Lewis Dunk 6
Occasionally a little clumsy but did his job on the rare occasions Bosnia threatened in the final third.
Kieran Trippier 6
Tidy in possession but offered little in the way of thrust down the left flank, frequently looking to cut back on his right foot.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 8
Outstanding after the interval, both in midfield and after switching to right-back for the final half an hour. Took his goal superbly.
Conor Gallagher 7
Will be encouraged to get 90 minutes to show what he can do in the engine room. Industrious and tenacious without the ball but a little wasteful with it.
Jarrod Bowen 7
More involved after the break and was a threat down the right, his energy and directness unsettling Bosnia’s defence.
Cole Palmer 7
Scored from the spot in his last action of the game. Not at his sharpest but made an early chance for Watkins and got into some promising positions.
Eberechi Eze 8
Comfortably England’s liveliest player in a pedestrian first half. Always looked to take on his man and his directness and control were eye-catching.
Ollie Watkins 6
Had a couple of efforts saved in a slow first half and occasionally threatened to get behind the Bosnia defence.
Southgate on England's performance
22:39 , George Flood
"We had an opponent that was dogged, determined, (there was a) good tempo to the game, so physically it was a good workout.
"We just had to be patient and we felt that in the end we'd create the chances.
“That's how it turned out, really.
“I thought in the end the scoreline reflected the performance."
Gareth Southgate on selection headaches
22:38 , George Flood
"A little bit - but that's a good thing.
"I'd rather we'd had good performances that caused you to think than poor performances.
“So there were lots of individual things that I was really pleased with."
Gareth Southgate reaction
22:37 , George Flood
"The great thing is we've got through the last few days with no big problems.
"We needed to get through these first few matches and the finals that have been played to have a clearer picture, and the guys that have been rehabbing have progressed well."
Harry Kane allays fitness fears
22:36 , George Flood
"I am feeling good. A lot of the end of season was precaution, of course there is a big summer coming up,” the England captain told Channel 4 after his impressive goal-scoring cameo at St James’ Park.
"We didn't want to take risks with it [back injury]. In the end it was a good chance to take a good break after a tough season.
"It has almost worked in my favour, missing the back end of the season. It gave me a chance to get a bit more rest than I was going to get.
"I'm not one who takes too long to get sharp and it was nice to get a goal there to get that feeling back again."
England 3-0 Bosnia

Full-time
Job done for the Three Lions after a much-improved second-half display.
On to Iceland at Wembley on Friday night and the small matter of Southgate cutting this squad from 33 to 26.
That Group C Euros opener against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen is less than two weeks away...
GOAL! England 3-0 Bosnia | Harry Kane 89'
21:39 , George Flood
The floodgates have opened late at St James’ Park!
Grealish and Maddison combine before Konsa inadvertently denies Bowen his first England goal.
No matter, Kane is on hand to squirm the rebound beyond Vasilj.
3-0 feels very harsh on Bosnia, despite England’s obvious improvements in this second half.
England 3-0 Bosnia
21:36 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at St James’ Park
Alexander-Arnold has been excellent since the interval, both in midfield and since switching to right-back after the opening goal.
He deserves that moment, and it is a good one for Jack Grealish too, who gets the assist to remind everyone of his enduring quality.
England 3-0 Bosnia
21:36 , George Flood
Into four minutes of stoppage time on Tyneside.
GOAL! England 2-0 Bosnia | Trent Alexander-Arnold 85'
21:32 , George Flood
Game, set and match!
After playing the role of conductor with some superb passes all night, Alexander-Arnold takes a chance for himself as a brilliantly-guided volley beats Vasilj and picks out the far corner.
Grealish with some nice vision on the assist.
England 1-0 Bosnia | 82 mins
21:26 , George Flood
Another absolute peach of a cross-field pass from Alexander-Arnold out to Grealish down the England left.
The ball is fed into the box for Maddison, who gets his feet in a muddle and can’t finish.
England 1-0 Bosnia | 80 mins
21:25 , George Flood
Kane has looked really impressive since coming on - great news for England that he doesn’t seem to be carrying any lingering effects of that back injury.
England 1-0 Bosnia
21:24 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at St James’ Park
Kane has, predictably, offered England much more of a focal point in attack since coming on.
Watkins did OK and would surely have won a penalty if he had gone down when grappled in the first half but England's reliance on their captain remains as strong as ever.
As it stands, Ivan Toney looks unlikely to get on here.
England 1-0 Bosnia | 76 mins
21:22 , George Flood
Branthwaite clatters into Gigovic and picks up a yellow card.
England 1-0 Bosnia | 74 mins
21:20 , George Flood
Liverpool’s Joe Gomez is now on for England, in place of Dunk.
Huseinbasic, Hadzikadunic, Mujakic and Tabakovic have replaced Saric, Radeljic, captain Demirovic and Bicakcic for the visitors.
England 1-0 Bosnia | 72 mins
21:17 , George Flood
Should England have had another penalty?
Replays show Bowen’s free header from a corner clearly striking the hand of Katic.
He didn’t know much about it, mind.
England 1-0 Bosnia | 72 mins
21:16 , George Flood
Kane is looking in the mood for England as a stood-up Konsa cross to the back post goes over off his head after Radeljic couldn’t reach it.
Now he shows great strength and sees a swerving shot beaten away by Vasilj.
England 1-0 Bosnia
21:12 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia at St James’ Park
Feels like a big half an hour for Maddison and Grealish, given how well Eze played during that first half...
England 1-0 Bosnia
21:12 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at St James’ Park
England have upped the tempo since the break and look menacing.
Alexander-Arnold is growing in influence and the front four are finding pockets of space. More goals surely incoming..
England 1-0 Bosnia | 65 mins
21:11 , George Flood
Bosnia look at sixes and sevens at the back now as England keep up the tempo after the goal.
Gazibegovic into the book as the pressure continues to build.
GOAL! England 1-0 Bosnia | Cole Palmer 60'
21:10 , George Flood
60 mins: Vasilj goes the right way and gets a touch to the ball, but can’t keep it out!
A first goal on his first senior England start for Chelsea star Palmer.
England 1-0 Bosnia | 62 mins
21:07 , George Flood
A raft of England changes now as Maddison, Grealish, Kane, Wharton and Branthwaite all come on.
Senior international debuts for the latter pair.
Off go Palmer, Eze, Watkins, Trippier and Guehi.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 59 mins
21:03 , George Flood
Usual penalty-taker Kane is about to come on, but for now it’s Palmer who steps up.
Tahirovic into the book.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 58 mins
21:02 , George Flood
There’s a VAR check going on for a shirt pull by Tahirovic on Konsa.
The referee is told to consult the pitchside monitor... PENALTY TO ENGLAND!
England 0-0 Bosnia | 56 mins
21:01 , George Flood
The Three Lions continue to turn the screw early in this second half as they pile up corner after corner.
Watkins gets his head to one out-swinger but Bosnia are just about managing to keep England at bay at the last, despite Palmer’s best efforts.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 54 mins
20:59 , George Flood
Alexander-Arnold playing further up the pitch is helping to unlock the Bosnian defence as another Palmer effort is seen behind for a corner.
Dunk and Konsa lurk with menace again as England force another in quick succession.
Bosnia under a lot of pressure now.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 52 mins
20:56 , George Flood
This is better from England, they are playing with far more purpose and looking to get the likes of Eze and Watkins in behind when they can.
I think James Maddison will be coming on soon as he receives some instructions on the bench.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 49 mins
20:53 , George Flood
That’s a superb pass from Alexander-Arnold in that midfield quarterback role, dissecting the Bosnian defence with a long ball that Watkins just can’t lift over the head of Vasilj.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 46 mins
20:50 , George Flood
Already more tempo from England at the start of this second half as they swarm forward in numbers and earn a corner through Palmer, from which Watkins heads over.
Good delivery from Trent.
England 0-0 Bosnia
20:48 , George Flood
The players are back out at St James’ Park.
No changes from Gareth Southgate just yet.
Second half underway.
England 0-0 Bosnia
20:40 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at St James’ Park
The England band have been doing their bit to lift the atmosphere which has largely drained from St. James' Park.
To be fair, there has not been much to get excited about, barring several flashes from Ebere Eze.
England 0-0 Bosnia
20:37 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia at St James’ Park
Not exactly inspiring stuff but probably to be expected given the unfamiliar nature of the side.
Eze aside, I'm not sure any player has moved the dial in terms of their case for inclusion during that 45 minutes.
England 0-0 Bosnia
20:35 , George Flood
Half-time
Not a classic first 45 minutes, it’s fair to say.
Nothing to shout about from England’s second-string so far bar the bright performance of Eze, with Vasilj saving from Watkins, Konsa and Palmer.
Big improvement needed after the break.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 45 mins
20:33 , George Flood
Bowen and Palmer are buzzing around in the box, making themselves busy and looking to tee up a chance.
Palmer lets fly with a low strike that is easy to deal with for Vasilj.
Just the one minute of added time signalled at the end of this sleepy first half.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 43 mins
20:31 , George Flood
It’s just too slow and disjointed on the occasions when England do work the ball into the final third.
Not nearly enough ingenuity and guile on display so far.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 41 mins
20:28 , George Flood
Really sloppy from England as Guehi tries to feed a pass into Alexander-Arnold but it’s miles off and seized upon in a dangerous area by Hajradinovic, whose deflected shot goes behind.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 38 mins
20:25 , George Flood
Plenty of aggression on display from Bosnia and Herzegovina so far as the tricky Eze is floored again and then Katic bumps a frustrated Watkins on the byline.
No free-kick given in either instance by Norwegian referee Rohit Saggi.
England 0-0 Bosnia
20:24 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at St James’ Park
I'd like to see Adam Wharton come on early in the second half.
The midfield of Gallagher and Alexander-Arnold have struggled to look after the ball and create so far.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 36 mins
20:23 , George Flood
A painful arm across the face for Guehi.
England come forward down the left but an attack centred on Trippier doesn’t come off and the ball trickles behind harmlessly for a goal kick.
Watkins cutting a forlorn figure in the middle so far.
England 0-0 Bosnia
20:21 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia at St James’ Park
A few times now we've seen the limitations of not having a natural left-back in the side.
Kieran Trippier had acres of space to drive into there but his natural inclination was to come back inside and look to switch the play.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 31 mins
20:20 , George Flood
Dunk with the block as Bosnia begin to grow in confidence at St James’ Park.
This new-look side under Sergej Barbarez have some good attacking threats that could hurt England if they let their focus slip.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 29 mins
20:17 , George Flood
Guehi has just wiped out Gigovic and rightly receives the game’s first yellow card for his troubles.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 28 mins
20:15 , George Flood
Dunk just can’t connect with a free header from the corner before Konsa’s strike is beaten away by Vasilj.
Chance for England!
England 0-0 Bosnia | 27 mins
20:14 , George Flood
Wonderful feet and trickery from Eze, who slaloms his way through multiple defenders before getting off a pass to Palmer before he’s brought down.
England have an overload on the right and Konsa’s delivery is blocked behind for a second Three Lions corner.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 24 mins
20:12 , George Flood
An injection of pace from Palmer, whose stood-up cross beyond the back post is headed behind by Bicakcic.
Watkins almost connects with the subsequent delivery to the front post.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 22 mins
20:10 , George Flood
Watkins is feeding off scraps just at the moment as he fails to control a tough ball that flies through for the goalkeeper.
Bosnia quickly turn defence into attack and earn their first corner of the evening, which comes to nothing.
England 0-0 Bosnia
20:07 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia at St James’ Park
Eze's change of direction is just superb. He stands still with the ball, imperceptible which way he's about to go, and then suddenly he's gone.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 17 mins
20:06 , George Flood
This has been a very low-key start in Newcastle.
But that’s a nifty move from England started by Eze, with Trippier pulling back for a Gallagher strike that is curled high and wide from the edge of the box.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 12 mins
20:02 , George Flood
Konsa tries to find Bowen, who is beaten to the ball by a challenge from Sturm Graz full-back Gazibegovic.
The Bosnian defender needs a bit of treatment as the rest of the players head to the sidelines for some water and early advice from their respective managers.
England 0-0 Bosnia
19:58 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at St James’ Park
Ebere Eze has made a positive start, showing a willingness to take on his man and drive forward whenever he has got the ball.
He's playing from the left, where James Maddison and Jack Grealish have typically been used for England.
Bad news for those two if Eze is one of the standouts tonight.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 9 mins
19:57 , George Flood
Chance for England!
Great play from Palmer to release Watkins, who shrugs off the close attention of Katic before firing straight at Vasilj from a tight angle.
The whistle has now gone.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 7 mins
19:55 , George Flood
Eze is the early dangerman on his first start for England, while there have been some robust challenges already in midfield - including from Gallagher.
Trippier’s foul out on the flank leads to a Bosnian free-kick delivery into the box that is claimed without issue by Pickford.
England 0-0 Bosnia
19:53 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia at St James’ Park
All as expected from the way England are lining up here: Eze on the left, Palmer at No10.
Konsa at right-back, Trippier on the left.
One of the criticisms of Ollie Watkins as a Harry Kane deputy is that he's not as similar in terms of playing style as Ivan Toney, his main rival for that role.
Watkins is much more of a running threat in behind, though, and you suspect he will enjoy having the passing ability of Alexander-Arnold in the side as much as anyone tonight.
They very nearly connected inside 60 seconds there.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 5 mins
19:52 , George Flood
Eze looks to build up a head of steam and is flattened by Ahmedhodzic of Sheffield United.
Palmer’s free-kick delivery from the left is easily cleared by Katic.
England 0-0 Bosnia | 3 mins
19:50 , George Flood
Pickford tries to force it from the back and England look in a spot of bother initially, but a one-two from Bosnia doesn’t come off in the box and Alexander-Arnold shepherds the ball behind for a goal kick.

England are sporting that new purple away kit again tonight, with Bosnia all in white.

Dan mentions that midfield pair but I also wonder how much you can really gauge about either of them when they aren't playing alongside Declan Rice, whose physical attributes are unique in this squad.
Particularly so with Alexander-Arnold, where the big question is really whether Rice is able to cover for the obvious defensive and positional vulnerabilities that come with playing the Liverpool man out of position.

As expected, it's a second-string England XI, with Jordan Pickford the only one of tonight's starters certain to start against Serbia on June 16 and the rest of the side auditioning for a place in the side and the final squad.
Keep a close eye on the midfield two, where Conor Gallagher and Trent Alexander-Arnold are probably the front-runners to partner Declan Rice in the group stage and will be hoping to make their cases this evening.
Palmer and Eze both handed first England starts
18:55 , George Flood
So pretty much as we expected from England, with first senior international starts handed to both Eberechi Eze and Cole Palmer in attack.
Only Jordan Pickford is considered a regular starter in that XI, so it really is a huge chance for the Three Lions’ second-string to impress Gareth Southgate ahead of Friday’s final Euro 2024 squad deadline.

England back at St James' Park for first time in 19 years
18:30 , George Flood
Tonight is the eighth time overall that England’s senior men’s team have played at St James’ Park and the first since March 2005.
On their last visit to Newcastle, the Three Lions beat Azerbaijan 2-0 in a qualifier for the 2006 World Cup thanks to second-half goals from Steven Gerrard and David Beckham.
Here is the England team from that day, under the management of Sven-Goran Eriksson...
England XI: Robinson, Gary Neville, Ferdinand (King 77), Terry, Ashley Cole, Beckham (Defoe 84), Gerrard, Lampard, Joe Cole, Rooney (Dyer 77), Owen
Subs not used: Carragher, James, Jenas, Heskey
Opportunity knocks for England hopefuls tonight
18:16 , George Flood
Gareth Southgate arrived in the north-east armed with the numbers and the caveat, writes Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia.
“We’ve got 43 days until the final,” the England boss said at the Three Lions training base near Darlington on Sunday.
“Not every day is going to be a great one, not every hour is going to be perfect.”
Of the 42 that now remain, the next five are unlikely to be given too much airtime in the telling and retelling should England make it all the way to Berlin on July 15 and, once there, lift a men’s major trophy for the first time in 58 years.

Southgate: Luke Shaw has 'good chance' of being fit for Euros
18:06 , George Flood
No Luke Shaw for England tonight as expected, but Gareth Southgate revealed yesterday that he was very pleased with the Manchester United left-back’s recovery.
Though he surely won’t feature against Iceland on Friday either, it appears he now has a “good chance” of making the Euros.
"He's progressing very well, I have to say," Southgate told talkSPORT of Shaw.
"I think I said last week that until we had the players in front of us working with us, there was a lot of information that we didn't have.
"We're pleased with how he's progressing. There's still a bit to do before he can get on the pitch in a game situation.
"But really pleased with the work he's doing with our physical performance team and our medics, so, yeah, he's in with a good chance."

England vs Bosnia prediction
17:42 , George Flood
Gareth Southgate can be expected to name a strong side, with the tournament now just a couple of weeks away and only 180 minutes of football to finalise preparations.
England were not entirely convincing in the last international break, against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley, but this is an obvious step down in opposition and it should be a comfortable night for the hosts in Newcastle.
England to win, 2-0.
Bosnia team news
17:35 , George Flood
Bosnia and Herzegovina aren’t heading to the Euros this summer, having finished a lowly fifth in their qualification group - behind Portugal, Slovakia, Luxembourg and Iceland.
Only Liechtenstein picked up fewer points (none, to be exact) in Group J, with Bosnia winning three and losing seven of their 10 qualifiers.
They still advanced to the play-offs via the Nations League, but were ousted by Ukraine 2-1 in Zenica in March after a late double from Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbyk that cancelled out an own goal from Mykola Matviyenko at Bilino Polje Stadium.
Ukraine would later beat Iceland - who beat Israel in the semi-finals - 2-1 in the Path B final in Wroclaw.
Bosnia are captained by 38-year-old former Manchester City, Inter Milan and Roma striker Edin Dzeko, who currently plays his club football in Turkey with Fenerbahce.
The only player in the current squad who plays in England is Sheffield United centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic, while former Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac is missing tonight due to injury.
Experienced defender Ermin Bicakcic is also sidelined.
England team news
17:26 , George Flood
England are without a number of players tonight due to injury, including Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Anthony Gordon.
Harry Kane has trained after a back injury that saw him miss the last three matches of Bayern Munich’s season, but he won’t start in Newcastle so Magpies full-back Kieran Trippier will captain his country for the fourth time on the occasion of his 47th cap.
Bukayo Saka and John Stones also won’t be involved, along with Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Kobbie Mainoo and Kyle Walker.
Bar Saka, those are the players due to link up late with the squad this week following their exertions in the Champions League and FA Cup finals respectively.
Eberechi Eze is expected to be handed his first England start tonight, while one of Ivan Toney or Ollie Watkins will presumably have the chance to impress with Kane on the bench.
Eze’s Crystal Palace club-mate Marc Guehi is also set to line up in central defence with Maguire and Stones both absent.
