England vs Finland LIVE!

England captain Harry Kane marked his 100th senior international appearance in trademark fashion with both goals in his team's 2-0 victory over a feeble Finland side in Nations League Group B2 at Wembley on Tuesday. The 31-year-old striker, who received a golden cap before kick-off and sported a pair of dazzling golden boots, broke Finland's gritty resistance with a dipping right-footed strike in the 57th minute.

At times it appeared to be a battle between Kane and Finland's impressive keeper Lukas Hradecky on a wet London night with the stopper making several fine saves to deny the striker. But a razor-sharp Kane beat Hradecky again in the 76th minute, sweeping in another right-footed effort to take his England tally to a record-extending 68.

Kane, who also had a first-half header ruled out for offside, was given a standing ovation when he was substituted in the 80th minute. England's win was their second under interim manager Lee Carsley after the away victory over Ireland on Saturday and puts them joint top of their Nations League group with Greece.

England’s best player. Five or six stunning passes that carved the Finns open. Got an assist for one of his more routine passes thanks to Kane’s brilliant strike, then created the second with ball for Madueke.

Almost a collector's item for Harry Kane on his 100th cap there, but he's denied from the free-kick well by Hradecky. Great stop from the goalkeeper. England pushing now.

England have been dominant and Finland have at times been hanging on by the skin of their teeth.

The openings will come for the hosts, but you sense the Wembley fans will soon run out of patience.

England took their foot off the gas in Dublin with the job done by half-time. Not the case tonight.

They've played some decent stuff and Alexander-Arnold has been excellent, but they've not created enough clear chances.

Finland have defended superbly so far.

Dom Smith at Wembley

20:22 , Alex Young

A fair few efforts flying in on goal from England now, but they still find themselves searching for the goal to break the deadlock.

Ten minutes until half-time, and Finland will be content with how they have - just about - defended everything England have thrown at them so far.

20:22 , Alex Young

35min: Saka again the target and again his shot it wide.

20:21 , Alex Young

34min: It goes short for Saka to have a pop.... and is deflected behind.

32min: Saka again looks for Kane and again his cross is cut out. Only a matter of time, you think.

Saka takes the corner - England’s fifth of the game - but this time it doesn’t beat the first man.

20:17 , Alex Young

30min: Saka’s corner sails inches over Konsa’s head. England are getting closer.

Kane is again spotted and this time gets the ball to his feet and unleashes a thunderous drive at goal which the keeper does well to parry.

The game gradually opening up a little now, as Finland start to come out more and offer a bit more adventure.

That should suit England, really, given their struggles at times to break down packed defences. Alexander-Arnold and Saka seeing plenty of the ball down the right.

Early impression is that Finland are a little less naive than Ireland were on Saturday.

In their own stadium, Ireland had to come out and try to be aggressive but they left England so much space on the counter.

Finland know a little more of what they're about.

An interesting team from Lee Carsley, who has given chances to players in areas of the pitch where you'd say England's depth isn't at its strongest - left-back, centre-back, holding midfield - but gone unchanged in those where he has most options, namely the forward line and at right-back.

Questions for Kane under new manager but England captain going nowhere

18:31 , Alex Young

On the eve of the landmark 100th cap that, with more of the recent England spotlight on the dugout than the pitch, has rather crept up on us all, Harry Kane played the hits at a press conference held, fittingly, at Tottenham’s training ground.

He talked of the hunger that still comes so easily, given that, at the age of 31, a maiden major trophy remains elusive. He had another pop at the press and pundits who had questioned his fitness throughout a laboured Euro 2024. He cited Tom Brady, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as familiar idols in the strive for longevity. And at the place where it all began, he recalled the story of how for a long time it looked like it wouldn’t.

Kane will, tonight against Finland at Wembley, become the 10th Englishman to play 100 internationals and surely, given the regard in which the previous nine were held as teen prodigies, the least likely so far.

In terms of the statistics and the charts, the smart money from here is that he will go past them all, to finish his career not only as England’s most prolific footballer, but as its record appearance-maker as well, albeit with the caveat that the international game moves fast.

Why Jude Bellingham is not playing for England tonight

18:23 , Alex Young

Lee Carsley is expected to tweak his starting lineup slightly, with Rico Lewis, Ezri Konsa, John Stones and Angel Gomes all likely to be brought into the side.

However, Jude Bellingham will once again not be involved for the Three Lions.

The midfielder suffered a muscle injury during a Real Madrid training session last month, confirming the setback in an Instagram post at the time.

He wrote: “Nothing I hate more than missing games but trying to see the positive side and maybe my body is telling me it needs a bit more rest after a busy year.

“I’m very frustrated but I’ll be supporting the lads like a fan until I can rejoin them again in my best and strongest form. Thanks for your messages of concern and support.”

It is not believed to be a serious issue, but Bellingham was not called up to the England squad for matches against Ireland and Finland.

The Three Lions are also without Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins and Phil Foden, who were initially named in Carsley’s squad but withdrew last week.

Score prediction

18:03 , Alex Young

There were plenty of encouraging signs in Dublin, with the first-half display from England full of attacking ambition.

Carsley will be keen for his side to keep that intensity up for the full match this time, against a team in Finland who should not present too many problems.

Finland team news

17:52 , Alex Young

Finland will rely on Glen Kamara to provide the creativity in midfield, with former Norwich striker Teemu Pukki potentially playing some role on his return to England.

Kaan Kairinen and Rasmus Schuller are expected to miss out due to injury.

Sven-Goran Eriksson set for Wembley tribute

17:44 , Alex Young

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will be honoured tonight.

The Swede was England’s first foreign manager, between 2001 and 2006, and last month died, aged 76, from pancreatic cancer.

A video tribute will be shown on the big screen before England face Finland, and players will wear black armbands, as they did in Saturday’s 2-0 win in Ireland.

There will be a period of applause before kick-off, when the recent deaths of Craig Shakespeare, Kevin Campbell and Tommy Banks will also be acknowledged.

Harry Kane will be handed his 100th England cap tonight.

The 31-year-old Bayern Munich striker will captain his country to make it a century of international caps, having made his debut in March 2015 against Lithuania, also at Wembley.

The England captain became his nation’s all-time leading goalscorer last year and has 66 goals in 99 caps for the Three Lions.

England team news

17:31 , Alex Young

Lee Carsley is going to resist making wholesale changes to his starting lineup from the side which beat Ireland 2-0 in Dublin on Saturday in England’s opening fixture in Nations League Group B2.

The expected changes will likely come in defence, with Rico Lewis, John Stones and Ezri Konsa coming in for Levi Colwill, Marc Guehi and Harry Maguire. Angel Gomes is also set to come into the side to partner Declan Rice in midfield.

There are no fresh injury concerns, with all players fit and available for the visit of Finland. All 23 trained at Tottenham’s training ground on Monday morning.

Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento would be making their senior international debuts if either feature on Tuesday, while Morgan Gibbs-White will be hoping for a second cap after representing England for the first time in Dublin.

Welcome

17:14 , Alex Young

Good evening and welcome to the Standard’s LIVE coverage of the Nations League clash between England and Finland.

It’s a Wembley bow for interim Three Lions head coach Lee Carsley, who will be looking to follow up a 2-0 win against Ireland in Dublin with another convincing victory tonight.

It should be fairly straightforward for Carsley & Co., but England have not won in front of their own fans in this stadium and in this competition for almost four years.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm BST. We have Malik Ouzia and Dom Smith there for us this evening.
