Wales fly-half Sam Davies has met with Leicester Tigers as he weighs up his next move.

Grenoble are keen on keeping hold of the in-form pivot, having offered him a long-term deal to stay with the promotion-chasing Pro D2 side.

But, understandably, given the impressive performances of the former Ospreys and Dragons playmaker - having been named Pro D2 player of the year last season - clubs are keeping close tabs on the 31-year-old.

WalesOnline previously reported that a handful of English clubs were interested, as were some high-profile Top 14 clubs.

It's now understood that Leicester have met with Davies as they search for a replacement for South Africa fly-half Handre Pollard, who seems likely to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season.

There have been suggestions that the Welford Road club are confident of keeping hold of the World Cup-winning Springbok, but - even though Pollard admitted this he didn't know what his future holds - the expectation is that the 30-year-old will leave.

It's also looking increasingly likely that Jamie Shillcock, who can play full-back and fly-half, could leave Leicester after just a year.

Michael Cheika's side had previously been linked with current Wales fly-half Sam Costelow, with the Scarlets outside-half having spent a couple of years with the English club.

It's understood Costelow was one of the fly-halves Leicester were interested in - with Ireland's Ross Byrne also linked - but it's looking likely the 19-cap international will stay in west Wales.

As well as Leicester, there's also been interest in England from Saracens for Davies - who have made enquiries for the former IRB Junior Player of the Year.

In France, it's understood that reports of Castres being interested in Davies are wide of the mark. However, Bayonne are on the lookout for a fly-half and full-back - with Davies a target.

There's passing interest from other French clubs, with Stade Francais an admirer of the eight-cap fly-half, although the strict JIFF rules in place by the French league on the number of players who have come through French academies does complicate matters for clubs when it comes to signing imported stars.
