Liverpool has now won seven out of seven in the Champions League, has set a new record for the time it has gone without conceding a goal in Europe, and leads the Premier League standings too. Things couldn't be going much better for Arne Slot.

The latest victory came over Lille at Anfield. Here, we've rounded up how the UK national media responded to the win over the French side in which Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliott both scored.

The Guardian: "Slot had two minor complaints: that Lille scored from their only shot on target and Liverpool are not guaranteed to win the Champions League group because of Barcelona’s 95th-minute winner at Benfica, where four minutes of stoppage time were signalled. They were the grumblings of a perfectionist.

"Perfectionism is serving Liverpool well, however. Top spot may not be secured just yet but Slot’s side booked a place in the last 16 with a seventh successive victory. It equalled the club’s best sequence in the Champions League era."

BBC: "This was far from Liverpool's best performance under Slot but it was another professional display and win. They were lacklustre in the opening half an hour and were well contained by the energetic and high press of Lille. The tackle by Kostas Tsimikas on David that won the ball back left the visitors vulnerable.

"There were huge gaps in their midfield and defence and Jones' pass was inch perfect to set up Salah, who finished with consummate ease. Liverpool will feel they should have extended their lead with Jarell Quansah and Alexis Mac Allister heading set-pieces over the bar and Nunez having a near-post effort saved. David's equaliser came from nowhere and was Lille's first shot on target. They were unbeaten in their past five Champions League games but were unable to withstand Liverpool pressure."

Daily Mail: "Although Slot may walk with a poker face and talk about nothing being won yet rightly so, to be fair — he must have some moments where it all sinks in just how well he is doing after stepping into the sizable shoes of following on from legendary boss Jurgen Klopp.

"Knowing him and the leadership group at Anfield, there will be no means of celebration for all but winning the group or their standing in other competitions. But the next month is season-defining with some tricky away league clashes and a Carabao Cup semi-final.

"There was much talk of the elusive ‘Quadruple’ in 2022 only for them to only — yes, only — win two trophies. We will not go there yet but one thing that must be said is that the behemoths that stood in Liverpool’s way then, Manchester City and Real Madrid, are significantly weaker now.

"For now, fans will just revel in the fine job their new boss is doing. A knockout round in Europe to look forward to, a tussle for a 20th English league title and still in two cups. Still early days, but the Slot Machine is the envy of the whole continent right now."

The Times: "Arne Slot should regard the lack of fanfare as yet another compliment. Safe passage into the last 16 of the Champions League has long since been a case of when, not if, but it says much about the impact of Liverpool’s head coach that milestones are being achieved with barely an eyebrow raised. Progress has not always seemed so routine in these parts.

"Anfield offered rich applause at the final whistle but in a manner which suggested all of the excitement lies in what their heroes might now go on to achieve on the continent in the coming months.

"Barcelona’s last-minute 5-4 win away to Benfica means that Slot’s side will have to wait another week to see if they finish top of the new 36-team format; they sit three points clear with one game to go. Victory over Lille guarantees not meeting whoever is also in the top two qualifiers until a potential final appearance.

"To stare down at all-comers is representative of the careful evolution he has overseen, however, and few had expected Liverpool to cut a swathe through the competition at the start of the season."
