Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could return to boyhood club Leicester City in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The 26-year-old completed a £30 million move to Chelsea from Leicester in the summer transfer window. Dewsbury-Hall came up through the academy at the King Power Stadium after joining the club as a young boy.

He has struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge since reuniting with manager Enzo Maresca. He is yet to start a Premier League game and has made just five cameo appearances in the league since the start of the season.

Most of Dewsbury-Hall’s minutes have come in the UEFA Conference League. He played the full 90 minutes of Thursday afternoon’s 3-1 away victory over Astana, providing as assist for Renato Viega’s goal.

The Mirror now report that Chelsea are willing to allow both Dewsbury-Hall and fellow midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka leave the club on loan in January, with the report adding that Leicester have registered an ‘interest’ in taking their former midfielder back on a temporary deal. Any loan deal would however need Chelsea to contribute to a portion of the midfielder’s wages.

The Foxes would also need to free up one of their available loan spots for a deal to go through. The club currently have Facundo Bounanotte and Odsonne Edouard on loan, although are said to be looking into cancelling the deal for the latter.

The positive relationship between Maresca and new Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy could help any potential deal, with the Leicester man asking the Chelsea boss for an insight before taking the job.

Dewsbury-Hall made 129 first team appearances for Leicester, scoring 17 goals and providing 20 assists. He was named as the club’s player of the season last year after helping the team return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
