Enzo Maresca identifies Nicolas Jackson replacement after Chelsea make £83m transfer decision
Chelsea look to have identified their main transfer target for the summer window. Despite links to numerous players, the Blues only made one new signing in January with young midfielder Mathis Amougou joining from Saint-Etienne.
Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens were all linked last month but none arrived with Joao Felix allowed out on loan and now two attacking injury blows have emerged. During the win over West Ham, Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu both suffered issues.
As such, there is some doubt over if Enzo Maresca will have a recognised striker available to him for the FA Cup fourth round tie against Brighton. With that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Chelsea news and transfer rumours.

Jackson replacement identified
When asked about who could replace Jackson if he does miss out, Maresca named two players after initially joking he could play up top.
"Christo has played already as a nine," he said. "I had Cole playing as a nine in the past [in Man City’s youth set-up]. We can find some different solutions. At the moment, we didn’t decide anything because we are still waiting for Nico..."
football.london says: Nkunku is probably going to have to start at Brighton if Jackson is absent, despite his annoyance at being played out of position.
The Frenchman could now end up playing a huge role under Maresca in the short-term despite appearing to be significantly down the pecking order just a few weeks ago. Palmer meanwhile, is far better in a free role with his abilities utilised better in deeper areas.
Hopefully Jackson is available but this has exposed Chelsea's lack of options in the central striker position and it is something that will need to be solved soon.
Gittens decision
Of the wingers mentioned above that Chelsea took an interest in, Gittens of Borussia Dortmund looks set to be the one they actively pursue. According to Fichajes, the Blues have their heart set on signing the England international, who is currently valued at £83million (€100m), this summer.
football.london says: That is a significant amount of money Chelsea would have to part ways with to sign Gittens especially when two wingers were brought in last summer anyway.
While he has shined in a Dortmund team that has been struggling significantly, Chelsea may be better off focusing efforts elsewhere. Prioritising a striker addition does seem more important while also first adding an elite-level goalkeeper and a more experienced body in midfield.
However, if one of Felix or Nkunku depart permanently, Gittens as a replacement is something that could certainly be considered.
