Last week, the news was confirmed that Aaron Anselmino will team up with the Chelsea squad for the first time.

The Blues confirmed on January 3 that the Argentine defender has been recalled from his loan spell at Boca Juniors. football.london understands the plan for Anselmino's development will include being integrated into the first-team at Cobham.

However, sources have also confirmed that because of his age and moving to a brand new country, there will be little pressure applied to Anselmino to hit the ground running this season. Chelsea, though, have a shortage of centre-back options at the moment with Wesley Fofana potentially out for the season and Benoit Badiashile missing until at least next month.

Chelsea welcome League Two side Morecambe to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon in the FA Cup third round, three days before Bournemouth come to SW6 in the Premier League - in what looks, all of the sudden, like a crucial game for the Blues following a winless run of four matches in the top-flight. The Morecambe tie looks more and more like a good opportunity for Enzo Maresca to rotate his side and give minutes to those in need on Saturday afternoon.

Perhaps we will see a debut in blue for Anselmino. While it seems unlikely the Argentine defender will start at Stamford Bridge, if he was to be named in the squad, then it should tell us more about what Chelsea's plan with him is between now and the end of the season.

It will also be intriguing to see what Maresca does with Josh Acheampong. Ordinarily, this match would look like a shoo-in for the 18-year-old defender to start but given his appearance away at Crystal Palace at the weekend, perhaps the Chelsea head coach's plans have changed somewhat.

With Bournemouth coming to west London on Tuesday evening, and the match being vital for Chelsea's pursuit of a top four finish this season, Acheampong may well be in Maresca's thinking to start alongside Levi Colwill again. Acheampong was exceptional for the Blues as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park; so much so that Maresca singled out the teenager for praise post-match.

"All the players, for me, were good today but if I had to decide for one, I think for sure, Josh was our best player because of his age, it was his first game," Maresca said on Saturday. "Josh, for me, can be a top player for this club but he needs the right path, the right moment; for young players, you need to decide which moment.

"We decided today because we think he showed that he was ready. Today, I think he showed how good he is. Because of his age, he needs to slow down, work hard and take his next chance."

Elsewhere, there could be a few farewells at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The likes of Axel Disasi, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei have all been linked with moves away in the January transfer window - and some of them could be in contention to appear against Morecambe.
