Chelsea's pursuit of Victor Osimhen has been well documented. The Blues have tracked the striker for a number of years and explored the idea of signing the Nigerian in the summer, football.london understands.

Ultimately, a deal for Osimhen could not be reached and the 25-year-old ended up joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan. Seemingly frozen out of Napoli, the prolific striker has started life in Turkey incredibly well and has already scored 12 goals in 15 appearances.

Osimhen continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea, however, as well as the likes of PSG, Manchester United and Arsenal. The Blues do have Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku capable of playing in the No.9 role at present, with the former Enzo Maresca's current first choice.

Jackson does have 12 goal contributions in 17 games this term so is proving he can produce at the top level. Maresca has already hinted he could be open to signing another striker, though, and said as much just days before the summer transfer window closed.

“If we have [the] chance to bring a No.9 that can help us and make the difference, we are going to try. Otherwise, we are ok," Maresca said.

“We don’t need to sign players just for [the sake of] signing players. If we sign players that are going to help us to improve, for sure we need players. Otherwise, we are happy in the way we are.”

It remains to be seen whether that player is Osimhen. The striker seems content to stay at Galatasaray until the end of the campaign, although could be available for €75million (£62million) next summer.

Osimhen was asked about his future after netting two goals against Tottenham in the Europa League last month. "I’m here as a Galatasaray player, I’m happy here," the striker told reporters. "Since I came the Galatasaray fans, the club, I saw how big a family this club is. The way they have treated me and my family in a wonderful manner. It’s important to be able to give them my all on the pitch.

"I’ve seen a lot of the speculation linking me out of the club in January, I can state through me now I’m going to be here until the end of the season. And then I don’t know what Galatasaray and Napoli are negotiating but of course, if they come to me to speak about one or two things regarding this club I would consider it, of course."

Galatasaray may not be able to finance a move for Osimhen, though, which may open the door for a club like Chelsea to make a move, most probably next summer. So, if the Blues do opt to go in for the Nigerian, what would Maresca's best Chelsea XI look like? football.london takes a look below...

Best Chelsea XI if Osimhen signs: Sanchez; James, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Sancho; Osimhen.
