Rob Cross reckons he got his head back in the game to stage a stunning eight-day turnaround and win the Dutch Darts Masters.

The Londoner endured a disastrous start to his World Series campaign in Bahrain last week when knocked out in the first round by Paulo Nebrida.

Hot on the heels of a first-game exit at the Worlds to Scott Williams, it was two dull thuds for Cross.

But Voltage surged back to full power in Den Bosch and was electric as he won his fifth World Series title

After sinking Jermaine Wattimena and Gerwyn Price to reach the Final, Cross took care of Stephen Bunting 8-5 in the Final to lift the trophy.

Looking back to the change in fortunes from Bahrain, he said: “If you would have said to me last Friday would I be winning? Probably not.

“Look, it’s lack of practice. I’ve tried to put a little tiny bit in this week and stuff. I know when I’m ready to go in and I know when I’m wrong and I probably felt wrong.

“But I’ve got a great team around me, great family and they’ve helped me to achieve this this week, trying to get my head back into it.

“It’s about time I won in the Netherlands. I [normally] can’t win a game, let alone win a tournament. So I’m very grateful.

“Stephen’s a great man and what he’s done and where he’s come from, I think it’s a credit to the sport. He always speaks well. I want to do that, but I can’t quite get there. I’m not educated! He probably ran out of steam. But I’m just so grateful that I won.”

Cross now heads to the Winwau World Masters next week aiming to snare the first ranking title of the season in Milton Keynes.

He added: “If I was going to pick to play, I’d win next week in a way, but to come in here this week, a week early before, when I feel like I’m not ready. it means so much. It’s been a great weekend. I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I love the World Series. It’s great to take it around the world. Now I get to enjoy it.”
