Numerous people have paid tribute to Klopp over the last few months following his shock announcement back in January. The latest to send his own message is none other than Eric Clapton.

Considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Clapton, who found fame in the 1960s with The Yardbirds and Cream before enjoying a successful solo career, was in Liverpool on Saturday for the second stop on his nine-date tour. It was the first time in nearly 15 years that he had played in the city.

And the 79-year-old certainly made sure to endear himself to the locals. As per the Liverpool Echo’s review of the gig, Clapton broke out into a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone to cheers and a few boos, most likely from some of the city’s Everton contingent.

Clapton ended the anthem by exclaiming “For Jürgen” in a clear message to Liverpool’s departing manager, much to the delight of the audience at the M&S Bank Arena. says: Klopp’s departure will have not just a big impact on the footballing world. His influence reaches far beyond the sport, and what he has done for the city of Liverpool, not just the football club, will certainly not be forgotten.

The fact that he now has one of the world’s biggest rock stars sending him a message during one of his gigs shows just what he means to Liverpool. Considering his love for rock music, Klopp will probably be quite pleased with getting a shoutout from Clapton. It’s certainly better than the response he got from Liam Gallagher
