Erling Haaland’s father confirms injury amid Man City worry: ‘You can’t just go two weeks without training’
Erling Haaland is touch and go for Manchester City’s game against Liverpool after the international break, the player’s father has confirmed.
The 22-year-old pulled out of the Norway squad due to take on Spain and Georgia over the next few days after picking up a groin injury during the FA Cup win over Burnley.
City, who trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by five points, have little more margin for error during the run-in.
They begin a packed weekend of action after the break by hosting Jurgen Klopp’s side for the lunchtime kick-off next Saturday before their two-legged Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich later in the month.
Norway manager Stale Solbakken has said Haaland is “deeply frustrated” by the injury as the country try and qualify for their first major international tournament since 2000.
“You can’t just go two weeks without training and then jump right into a fight,” said Haaland’s father to TV2 Sport.
“There must be a progression there. It is about how he responds to treatment in the next few days.”
