England route to Euro 2024 final: How the Three Lions could win tournament after dramatic quarter-final win

England have booked their place in the Euro 2024 semi-finals.

Gareth Southgate’s side continue to fail to live up to pre-tournament expectations in terms of performances, with five consecutive below-par displays so far, but five points was enough to top Group C before Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane struck in a dramatic last-16 comeback to thwart Slovakia.

Switzerland were up next in the quarter-finals and Bukayo Saka rescued England with a late equaliser before Jordan Pickford’s early save set the scene for a penalty shootout win.

Despite a series of uninspiring displays, England had their hopes boosted by results elsewhere, with Spain, Portugal, Germany and France all ending up on the other side of the draw.

Next up in the semis is the Netherlands, who finished third in their group after a set of poor performances of their own. In the knockouts, they brushed Romania aside before coming from behind to beat Turkey.

If England get past the Dutch, then Spain will await in Sunday’s final after coming from behind to beat France 2-1 in Munich on Tuesday.
