Euro 2024 top scorers: Golden Boot shared between six players including Harry Kane
The Golden Boot at Euro 2024 was shared between six players in a remarkable turn of events.
Harry Kane didn’t enjoy the best of tournaments for England but came away with a cut of the top-scorer honour with three goals, having scored against Denmark, Slovakia and the Netherlands.
Spanish forward Dani Olmo scored for the third game in a row earlier in the Euros to earn his spot.
Jamal Musiala, Cody Gakpo, Georges Mikautadze and Ivan Schranz all finished on three goals and a UEFA rule meant they weren’t split depending on assists or minutes played.
Mikautadze’s penalty in Georgia’s shock win over Portugal put him ahead of a clutch of players on two goals apiece at the end of the group stage, before Germany’s Musiala curled home in the last 16 against Denmark to move level with the Metz striker.
Schranz joined Musiala and Mikautadze on three goals after giving Slovakia a surprise lead against England in Gelsenkirchen in the last-16.
Gakpo then added his third of the tournament in the first half against Romania in the last 16. It looked like he had notched his fourth goal in the quarter-final with Turkey, but the winner was given as a Mert Muldur own goal by UEFA.
