Evangelos Marinakis reveals why he has 'rewarded' Chris Wood with new Nottingham Forest contract
Evangelos Marinakis says the decision to hand Chris Wood a new contract was based on more than the striker’s goal-scoring exploits.
Wood, who with 14 goals this season has become the Nottingham Forest's top marksman of the Premier League era, has fired the Reds into third place and been a key reason for a run of eight wins from their last nine games.
As a result Forest are being spoken of in terms of a title challenge and qualifying for the Champions League, a far cry from their battles to stay in the division. It is also a far cry from the underwhelming reaction Wood’s transfer attracted when he moved from Newcastle in January 2023.

The 33-year-old, who is now under contract until the summer of 2027, has impressed everyone on the field and off it. Which prompted the Forest owner to pay a fulsome tribute.
Marinakis told the club website : “He has performed exceptionally well with us. More than just his goals, he epitomises everything that it means to wear the Garibaldi Red – hard work, a fighting and winning spirit, and the attitude to never give up. He is a winner and a role model to inspire all of us, and we reward his dedication with ours.”
