Wanderers have completed the signing of Joel Randall from League One rivals Peterborough United.

Randall has put pen to paper over a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and arrives for a “substantial” fee which is likely to exceed £1million.

The 25-year-old was one of Ian Evatt’s top targets in the summer but the clubs couldn’t come to an agreement at the time, and he signed a new deal at London Road.

Randall has failed to find his best form in what has turned out to be a rocky season for Posh so far and hadn’t started any of their last three league games.

He was a major player for Darren Ferguson’s side as they reached the play-off semi-final last term, scoring the last of his 12 goals against Bolton in a 3-3 draw on the final day.

Evatt is confident that Randall can make his mark at Wanderers both in the short and long term.

“We worked very hard to try and get him here in the summer,” Evatt told the club site. “It ended up being unachievable, but things change quickly in football and once we knew we had the potential to make it happen we wanted to work quickly to try and secure his services.

“It's a big signing for us, short and long term. He's a top player who can play in a number of different positions which is important for us.

“We feel the role Paris (Maghoma) played for us in particular last season, being able to receive the ball in tight spaces, dribble, break down low blocks and create, is Joel’s game, so he’s going to add a lot to us.

“The board has always tried to help us move the team forward and improve the team. This is a player I've admired for a long time, so it was great that they have supported me to make this happen.”

Randall, who started out at Exeter before making the move to Peterborough, will wear the number 31 shirt at Wanderers.
