Oxhey Jets’ hopes of lifting the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy are over after a late winner gave Everett Rovers a 3-2 semi-final victory at a muddy Boundary Stadium.

The hosts were always going to have their work cut out against the Herts County Premier League side managed by former Jets boss Tim O’Sullivan, who was certain to have his team motivated against his former club.

Conditions also didn’t help on Saturday, with Jets rating only 80 per cent of the pitch playable, but that didn’t stop them starting brightly with Gorge Rice springing the offside trap to slot the home side into the lead after five minutes.

The game was open considering the conditions and Jets spurned a great chance to go back in front when Dom Mosca went clear and put the ball beyond the keeper but wide of the post.

However, they did regain the lead after 34 minutes when Rice drove the ball past the keeper and Mosca was on hand to convert.

The visitors took control from then on and despite using all their substitutes, Jets mainly stayed in the game due to their opponents missing chances.

The home side’s luck ran out with two minutes remaining and penalties looming large when their keeper made a fine save, but was unable to hold onto the ball and Rovers stabbed home the winner.

The home side tried to get back on terms but they put their one big chance over the bar, leaving Everett to celebrate their victory.
