Everton legend 'grabbed hold of' teammate as dramatic Liverpool win sparked chaotic scenes
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been reminiscing about the Merseyside derby ahead of the final meeting between the rivals at the historic stadium. And Duncan Ferguson has relayed a story of chaos after a late Reds winner.
Everton's 2-0 win over Liverpool last season was the Blues' first derby victory on home soil since 2010, but most of the matches in the intervening period have been drawn. The Reds only won twice there under Jurgen Klopp and one of those was during Covid without fans inside the ground.
"After returning from Newcastle, Duncan’s first derby defeat was in 2001 when Gary McAllister’s free-kick ended a barren spell for Liverpool at Goodison," Carragher writes for The Telegraph. "I was not aware of the mayhem in the Everton dressing room post-match."

Ferguson, as he told Carragher ahead of the final Merseyside derby, was furious. "I was devastated how we lost that game and to lose my unbeaten record," he said.
"I’d scored and was man of the match. I very rarely argued with the lads after a game or raised my voice. But I couldn’t help myself that day. I said to our keeper, Paul Gerrard: ‘What the f--- were you doing?’
"He said: ‘I was coming for the cross.’ I grabbed hold of him and said: ‘For f---’s sake, you’ve never come for a cross all f------ season!’ By then we were a bit jealous when you and Stevie came through. We wanted more of our own local lads with that fire. Warriors who could really play."
Liverpool.com says: It shouldn't be quite so dramatic tomorrow night when Liverpool travels to Everton for the final time at Goodison Park. The Reds will find it tough and it will be a battle, but a bit like at Bournemouth, there is a world in which their quality tells if the start of the game is strong. Liverpool will need to ride the opening spell and then should grow into it.
