Everton maintain Idrissa Gana Gueye is not for sale despite transfer request and persistent PSG interest

Idrissa Gana Gueye has submitted a transfer request although Everton remain adamant they will not sell the midfielder before Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

Paris Saint-Germain are continuing to push for the signing Gueye. Having had a bid of £21.5million rejected earlier this week PSG are considering a revised offer of £26.2million which they are confident Everton will accept.

The 29-year-old has told Everton that he wants to make the switch to the French champions and has now followed that up with a formal transfer request.

Everton’s stance has been clear: the midfielder is not for sale. However it appears that PSG believe there are sufficient grounds for them to plan an improved bid and to continue to try and hold talks for Gueye.

The Senegalese was left out of Everton’s 1-0 win away to Huddersfield Town, which relieved a little the growing pressure on manager Marco Silva following last weekend’s FA Cup exit to Championship Millwall and a disappointing run of results. Everton said that Gueye was injured for the game, suffering from a minor groin problem.

At that time Silva said there had not been an improved offer for Gueye but it is understood that one has now been proposed. Whether it has been formally submitted remains to be seen but it could be one that goes down to the 11pm deadline on Thursday.

Gueye signed for Everton in the summer of 2016 when the club triggered his £7.2million release clause after Aston Villa were relegated from the Premier League.

Silva will want Gueye back for the vital home Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday with the manager in need of another positive result. He will be without first-choice left-back Lucas Digne, who was sent off against Huddersfield, and, probably, Leighton Baines who suffered a rib problem.

PSG, who face Manchester United in the last-16 of the Champions League, have been determined to strengthen their midfield during this transfer window having left themselves weak in that area of the team last summer.

They have already signed Leandro Paredes from Zenit St Petersburg for around £35million. The 24-year-old Argentinean had previously been of interest to Chelsea but PSG made their move for him.

Silva has already said it is unlikely that Everton will make any signings before the window closes although that would change should the club eventually be persuaded to sell Gueye.

Everton did express renewed interest in signing Belgium international striker Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea, on loan, but that is not believed to have progressed for the time being but could be revived.

It remains likely that Batshuayi, whose loan move to Valencia was cut short, could leave Chelsea on deadline day and Silva has been very keen to add another centre-forward to his squad. It is understood that Chelsea would prefer to sell and value Batshuayi at £35million.
