The international break feels like it has come at a good time for Everton Women. The Blues have just faced Chelsea away in consecutive weekends and despite some good signs in both matches, ultimately lost them both.

While they slipped to a 4-1 loss in the FA Cup, last time out they were denied a point in agonising fashion. After Kelly Gago gave Everton a surprise lead just after the break, Mayra Ramirez equalised and Lauren James scored a 93rd-minute winner.

It means Brian Sorensen has a lot to ponder during the interval, with Everton next in action on March 2 in the Women's Super League. Read on for a round-up of the latest Everton Women stories.

Sorensen fuming at refereeing

The Everton manager was once again angry at the refereeing in his side's loss to Chelsea.

The Blues boss felt like his side were on the wrong end of decisions in the 4-1 FA Cup loss, although he was even more incensed in his post-match reaction to the most recent defeat.

"I don't know what to say," he said, referencing the match official failing to stop the game due to a head injury before one of Chelsea's goals. "It's the second week in a row that the refs are taking something from us.

"I'm very proud of the girls. They did exactly everything we wanted them to do. I thought we could be more aggressive in the second half and the goal came from that. But it's super frustrating.

"I can't control it [the refereeing]. We can't control it. We just have to keep working. We're still a new group, there are a lot of players that need to keep learning week-by-week, which you could see from [last week] to this week.

"I am really feeling for the girls, I am so disappointed on behalf of them because they deserved more."

Ladd nearing international milestone

This international break could prove to be a memorable one for new Everton signing Hayley Ladd.

The midfielder moved to Everton from Manchester United in the mid-season window and has made some encouraging displays in royal blue so far.

She will now trade the Everton shirt for her Wales one on Friday night and provided she features against Italy, it will be her 100th international appearance.

"Winning 100 caps, if it comes, will be a really great honour, a proud moment for me and for my family," Ladd told BBC Sport Wales.

"I remember watching when the likes of Jess Fishlock and Sophie Ingle won their 100th caps and thinking, 'if I can do that, then when I am retired, I can look back at something great'. To be on the brink of that, is very special."

Ladd will become the 10th player in all of Welsh football to have reached the 100-cap mark should she take to the field.

Blues in international action

Away from Ladd, Everton have confirmed which players will be in action over the international break.

Emma Watson and Katja Snoeijs could face one another on Friday when Scotland and the Netherlands go head-to-head. Karoline Olesen and Martina Fernandez may also be on opposite sides, with Denmark and Spain meeting in an Under-23s fixture.

Honoka Hayashi is part of the Japan squad that will take part in the SheBelieves Cup against Australia, Colombia and the USA.

Gago, who has been in excellent form for the Blues, will also be truing to get the better of Maren Mjelde when France face Denmark.

Courtney Brosnan (Ireland), Heather Payne (Ireland), Veatriki Sarri (Greece) and Justine Vanhaevermaet (Belgium) have also been called up.
