Everton player ratings as Carlos Alcaraz sensational and five more superb in Crystal Palace win
Everton’s incredible revival under David Moyes continued as they recorded a determined 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park to move level with the south London side on 30 points. The Blues have now taken 13 points in their last five matches on the Scot and down to the bare bones against the Eagles, they dug deep for a second consecutive away victory.
Beto fired the visitors in front on 42 minutes and despite the hosts levelling through Jean-Philippe Mateta just two minutes after the restart, Carlos Alcaraz, Everton’s winter window deadline day signing on loan from Flamengo, capped a dream first start by netting the winner 10 minutes from the end after earlier providing the assist for the opener.
Jordan Pickford 8
Kept Everton in this contest before they went ahead, making impressive saves to deny shots from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Justin Devenny plus a header from his England international team-mate and home captain Marc Guehi, there was little he could do about Mateta’s equaliser.

Jake O’Brien 7
The former Crystal Palace man was determined to put on a good show at his former club where he failed to make a first team appearance and was steady enough, even if half-time substitute Eberechi Eze kept the visitors’ defence on their toes, and won a back post header from Harrison’s cross in the move for the second goal.
Vitalii Mykolenko 6
No first minute opener this time, he was forced to focus on his defensive tasks and looked pretty solid.
James Tarkowski 8
Felled Mateta with a monster tackle that had the home fans screaming but referee Anthony Taylor deemed fair, he’s followed up his derby heroics with a strong showing other than when he was unable to cut out a cross that led to Mateta’s early chance.
Jarrad Branthwaite 8
Was unfortunate that Marc Guehi just got to a loose ball fractionally before he attempted to head it clear in the build-up to Mateta’s equaliser, he survived an early miskick that let Mateta in to otherwise look assured and comfortable on the ball, making a crucial late interception to deny Ismaila Sarr.
Idrissa Gueye 8
Another accomplished showing in the anchor man role, bustling around in the engine room to provide a shield in front of his back four.
James Garner 6
With Gueye fighting fires alongside him, he offered some silk alongside his steel, but opportunities to pick a pass were scarce and he was booked for hauling down Eze.
Jesper Lindstrom 7
Lively going forward, testing Dean Henderson with a dangerous, low cross-shot towards Beto in the first half and then another delivery to him from the byline after the break, he also put in a defensive shift to help O’Brien.
Carlos Alcaraz 9
Dream full debut for the Argentinian as he netted Everton’s second goal with a calm finish after showing his class with a smart pass to set up Beto for his goal, slotting in well and showing he was up for the fight.
Jack Harrison 7
Nobody within this Everton squad can be a like-for-like replacement for the injured Iliman Ndiaye but he put in a shift down the left flank and was full of running and endeavour, putting in the cross the ended with the visitors’ second goal.
Beto 8
Coolly took his fourth goal in as many games with an assured finish just before the break and proved a real handful for the home defenders but should have added to his tally in the second half, being denied with a near-post finish before shanking a late opportunity wide.
Substitutes
Ashley Young (on 79 for Lindstrom) 7
Instant impact for the veteran as his blocked shot fell to the feet of Alcaraz to restore Everton’s lead.
Tim Iroegbunam (on 86 for Alcaraz) n/a
Late cameo to replace the match-winner.
