Everton player ratings as Idrissa Gueye colossal and three superb in Brentford win

Idrissa Gueye’s second goal in consecutive weekends secured a third successive home win for Everton and a result that ensured Sean Dyche’s side are now mathematically safe going into the final month of the season.

Despite two separate points deductions, the Blues will now go into their last season at Goodison Park as a Premier League club.

Jordan Pickford 8

Made a crucial stop to deny Ivan Toney from close range when the game was goalless early in the second half before denying Keane Lewis-Potter, this was another commanding performance in his area as he was assertive when coming for crosses while his footwork was solid.

Ben Godfrey 7

Solid at the back, making a couple of timely interceptions while offering some willing running up the flank when he could, putting some crosses in.

Ashley Young 7

Slotted in well in place of Vitalii Mykolenko and held his own defensively although some of his deliveries could have been better when in time and space.

James Tarkowski 8

Was called into action several times to deal with Brentford balls launched into the area but was aerially dominant in both boxes.

Jarrad Branthwaite 8

Another Rolls-Royce of a performance, he made a couple of timely interceptions to deny Mathias Jensen, reading the play well while proving a nuisance in Brentford’s area to work the opening for Gueye to break the deadlock.

Idrissa Gueye 9

Fired Everton ahead for the second consecutive weekend, showing great composure to arrow his shot into the roof of the net after some penalty box pinball on what was another industrious display in the engine room.

James Garner 7

A source of perpetual motion for Everton, he zipped around in the centre of the park and made a crucial block to deny Bryan Mbeumo as Brentford chased an equaliser.

Abdoulaye Doucoure 6

Squandered an inviting effort just before the break when his left foot shot flew wide, he pushed forward at times to support his rookie striker but it was more perspiration than inspiration.

Jack Harrison 7

Picked his moment to provide the cross that resulted in Everton’s goal, he’d earlier had a shot deflected wide by Nathan Collins and was a willing runner down the right, often trying to cut inside and find an opening.

Dwight McNeil 7

Rattled the crossbar early in the second half with a rasping shot from distance, he’d earlier set up Harrison with a clever through-ball.

Youssef Chermiti 6

Looked set for a goal on his first Premier League start only to see his dinked effort float wide when played through – and the offside flag went up anyway – he worked hard on his first Premier League start but despite his height and a willingness to put himself about, the teenager lacks the physical presence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto.

Amadou Onana 6 (on 77 for Gueye)

Offered some fresh legs in the latter stages but got himself in a muddle when on the break, squaring to an offside team-mate rather than having a shot himself.

Michael Keane (on 90 for Chermiti)

The centre-back came on as a stoppage time substitute and went up front.
