Everton stance on Willian transfer as budget set to be boosted by multi-million pound windfall
David Moyes could solve his side’s creative woes by signing a free agent who Fulham captain Tom Cairney described as the best he’s ever turned out alongside - as Everton get set for a timely transfer windfall. An article in the Telegraph claims that the Blues are one of the clubs who have been offered former Brazil international Willian, who is available on a free transfer after leaving reigning UEFA Conference League champions Olympiacos after a six-month stint in Greece.
Following a 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday in his first game back in charge as Everton boss, Moyes said: “We’re desperately needing to add some quality in certain areas, mainly to create and craft goals, and it looks like to finish as well, we’re needing to get those levels up.”
Willian, who was capped 70 times for Brazil, scoring nine international goals, has got a decade of previous experience in the Premier League at London trio Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham. Speaking last month, midfielder Cairney who was the South American’s skipper at Craven Cottage, was asked who the best player he had ever played with was, and said: “Willian, it’s not even close. I think his football brain is out of this world.

“In my opinion, I don’t think he gets the recognition he deserves in the Premier League. I think he was one of the best players in the Premier League for four or five years, but because he played in the same team as Eden Hazard, who kind of took a lot of the limelight—and rightly so, he was the best player—but I thought Willian was special, very special.”
The ECHO understands that the speculation surrounding Willian, who turns 37 on August 9, is being driven by his agent and with Everton assessing various transfer options, it remains unclear whether they will make a make a move at this stage.
Following the completion of the club’s takeover by The Friedkin Group in December, though, and the avoidance of any further PSR punishments being confirmed on Tuesday, funds are understood to be available for any suitable targets that can be identified this month.
And the Blues are set for a further financial boost if Leicester City striker Tom Cannon departs the King Power Stadium in the current window.
The Aintree-born Everton academy graduate joined the Foxes for £7.5million in 2023 and having been recalled from his loan spell at Stoke City, he is now set to be on the move again for a fee of up to £13million with Sheffield United in pole position for his signature.
The ECHO understands Goodison Park chiefs have a 25% sell on for the 22-year-old.
