Everton suffer major injury blow as Dominic Calvert-Lewin withdrawn at Brighton
Dominic Calvert-Lewin left the pitch after just 12 minutes with an injury that could re-shape Everton’s transfer window.
The striker looked in immediate pain as he pulled up after challenging for a long ball against Brighton and Hove Albion. He initially received treatment on the pitch before hobbling off and heading straight down the tunnel, replaced by Beto.
Any injury to the frontman, who broke his goal scoring drought in the win over Tottenham Hotspur last week, would be of immense concern for David Moyes.

The new Everton boss is already facing the absence of strikers Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti for an extended period. While he does view Iliman Ndiaye as having the potential to play up top, the only recognised senior forward available to him in Calvert-Lewin’s absence would be Beto, who has struggled for form since joining from Udinese in the summer of 2023 - though his opportunities have been limited.
Moyes is keen to boost his attacking options in the January transfer window and has considered searching for a striker. But the constraints caused by financial regulations and what is widely considered a lack of options in the market for the forward have led to Everton hoping to find support for Calvert-Lewin out wide. That could change depending on the nature and severity of Calvert-Lewin’s injury.
