Everton’s players will be greeted with a passionate arrival at Goodison Park with the final Merseyside derby set to begin with a coach welcome.

The streets around the Grand Old Lady will again throng with Blues and blue pyrotechnics on what will be an emotional night in L4.

The event will follow the incredible scenes that fuelled Everton’s survival bid at the end of the 2021/22 season, when supporters rallied to back Frank Lampard’s side as it battled relegation to the final week of the season.

Those scenes inspired both players of the present and the future, with the likes of James Tarkowski admitting they played a role in his decision to move to Goodison the following summer, which ended with coach welcome for the first game of the next season, against Chelsea.

Such welcomes were less a feature of the struggles during Sean Dyche’s stint as Blues boss, though were held ahead of games like the home defeat to Newcastle United as Everton again took until the final home game of the season to confirm their top flight status.

The return of David Moyes, whose appointment has lifted spirits in the stands after a tough start to the season, has led to confirmation the final derby will be the scene of another emphatic display around the streets of the ground.

The plans were announced by supporter group The 1878s on Monday morning and the route will be finalised over the coming days. The derby will unfold on Wednesday after the danger posed by extreme winds during Storm Darragh led to the original fixture being called off in December.

Everton will enter the game on a three match winning streak in the Premier League but after the disappointment of an FA Cup defeat at home to Bournemouth on Saturday.
