What Everton supporters sang at Arsenal after Man City go 2-0 up vs West Ham

Everton supporters sang ‘you nearly won the league’ as Arsenal’s title hopes faded.

The Emirates was electric at kick-off with the Gunners chasing a first title in two decades.

But a second minute goal by Phil Foden, which put Manchester City on course to move out of reach of Arsenal, punctured the atmosphere and created an opportunity for the away end to seize control of the airwaves.

They did just that by taunting the home fans with chants of: “You nearly won the league.”

Arsenal dominated the early stages, forcing several good saves from Jordan Pickford, but their players appeared to grow conscious their fate was out of their hands as the home supporters quietened.

That gave Everton’s players confidence too, allowing the opportunity for passages of play that led to the away end’s chants of ‘ole’ ringing around a ground which had hope sucked from it by Foden’s second strike 20 minutes in.
