Liverpool was scheduled to take on Everton in what could be the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before the Toffees move into their new stadium in 2025. But Storm Darragh has been causing problems across the region and the match is now OFF.

Heading into the weekend, there was a risk that the match could be postponed with travel across Liverpool disrupted and an amber weather warning for wind having been issued by the Met Office. Merseyrail services between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Central were suspended early on Saturday, and the wind and the rain are predicted to get worse before they improve.

Very high winds have been forecast throughout the day as well as heavy rain. Today's racing at Aintree had already been called off, there's flooding on the M56 motorway and there is an amber weather warning (for an "increased likelihood of impacts from severe weather, which could potentially disrupt your plans") in place.

A joint statement released by Everton and Liverpool on Friday evening read: "Supporters attending Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park are advised to allow extra time for travel, and to remain alert to Met Office weather warnings.

"An amber severe wind warning has been issued by the Met Office for Merseyside from 1am on Saturday morning, with wind gusts of 60mph to 70mph likely. That warning for wind is expected to remain in place until 6am on Sunday.

"Given the weather warning, fans are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to take extra care. Fans are also advised to keep a close eye on travel and weather guidance in their area to assist with travel planning for Saturday’s Premier League fixture (12:30pm kick-off UK time/7.30am ET)."

Everton has confirmed the decision to postpone the match on social media, with Liverpool City Council also issuing a statement. Fans who were set to attend have instead been told to stay at home and follow the Met Office's advice.
