Everton vs West Ham LIVE!

Everton secured their first Premier League win of the season as they beat West Ham 1-0 at Goodison Park. In what was the final top-flight match before the international break, Neal Maupay struck his first Everton goal with a fine finish after the break to give the Toffees a much-needed three points, lifting them up to 13th in the table.

As for the Hammers, defeat continued what has been an incredibly poor start to the camaign domestically, David Moyes’ side again a long way off the standards they have set in recent seasons. Said Benrahma struck the post and Maxwel Cornet had two late chances, but they were once again poor in attack.

They will have to spend the next two weeks in the relegation zone, with just four points and three goals scored from their opening seven league matches. It is their joint-worst start to a Premier League season.

Everton get their first Premier League win of the season!

Maupay with his first goal for the club and it’s an absolutely huge one. More problems for West Ham.

16:07 , Matt Verri

90+5 mins: McNeil and Scamacca both with poor challenges in the space of a few seconds, slowing the match right down.

Everton players not impressed with that from Scamacca - or at least it kills time if they pretend they’re annoyed.

16:04 , Matt Verri

90+2 mins: Everton with a big chance to break, they have the numbers forward but it’s a terrible pass from Doucoure.

West Ham still have time to find an equaliser, and they’ll have another corner. Begovic tips Bowen’s cross over the bar.

16:02 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Iwobi doing a good job of keeping the ball in the corner, until he just bundles into Bowen.

Five minutes added on at Goodison.

16:00 , Matt Verri

88 mins: Cornet with a real chance to level things up!

Tarkowski and Coady get in each other’s way, Cornet is in. Patterson gets a crucial touch which forces Cornet wide and he can’t find the back of the net from a tight angle.

15:58 , Matt Verri

86 mins: Scamacca with a very late challenge on Tarkowski, frustrated to say the least.

Moyes runs onto the pithc to kick the ball back to the Everton defence, trying to get them to hurry up. Whatever it takes!

15:56 , Matt Verri

84 mins: Too easy for West Ham, Rice slides Cornet through and he’s in on goal.

Goes for the near post, Begovic able to turn it behind for another corner. This one doesn’t even make it in play - woeful.

15:54 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Onana will be fine to continue, so Doucoure comes on to replace Gray.

Lampard doing whatever it takes to just see this out now, would be such a huge win for them.

15:52 , Matt Verri

79 mins: Rice running at the Everton defence, no space there at all.

Tries a cute pass through the middle, doesn’t come off though and the ball rolls through to Begovic. Onana now down with cramp.

15:49 , Matt Verri

77 mins: Everton keeping the ball now, without doing too much with it.

Gray injects a bit of urgency, driving into the box and Kehrer does well to halt his progress. Comes to Iwobi on the edge of the box, curled over the bar.

15:47 , Matt Verri

74 mins: West Ham smack the woodwork!

Inches away from an equaliser. All comes from Everton giving the ball away, Benrahma can drive forward. Curled towards the far post, hits the inside of the woodwork and rolls back across the face of goal. so close.

15:43 , Matt Verri

70 mins: Antonio off, Scamacca on.

Still looking for his first Premier League goal - now would be a very good time for his side.

15:41 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Almost 11th time lucky!

Corner into the near post, Soucek flicks it on and it’s so close to finding the far corner. West Ham’s best spell by a long way.

Benrahma then can’t keep the ball away, pressure eases.

15:40 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Bowen with a powerful stirke from the edge of the box, blocked. Everton starting to be pushed back.

Cresswell whips a cross in, Gordon jumps and gets a touch on it - turns it behind for a corner.

15:37 , Matt Verri

64 mins: Superb from Gray, Everton inches away from doubling their.

Skins Coufal on the outside, fires the ball across the face of goal but nobody is there at the back post. West Ham just about survive.

15:34 , Matt Verri

62 mins: Changes for West Ham. Still best part of 30 minutes for them to get back into this.

Gordon into the book after a pretty cynical tug of the shirt.

15:32 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Iwobi away on the left, crosses it in and Gordon is completely free at the back post.

Just too far in front of him though, he can’t catch up with the ball. Not that it matters, offside flag goes up.

15:31 , Matt Verri

58 mins: Tarkowski down for Everton, as Moyes prepares some changes.

Looks like Benrahma and Cornet will be coming on very shortly for the visitors.

15:28 , Matt Verri

55 mins: Well the game has completely changed now - things are happening!

Antonio with a header saved at one end, Everton fly forward at the other. Maupay hammers an effort at goal, corner.

GOAL! Everton 1-0 West Ham | Neal Maupay 53'

15:26 , Matt Verri

Everton take the lead!

Maupay up and running for Everton with his first goal. Out of nothing really, turns on the edge of the box and fires at goal, beats Fabianski at the near post.

Brilliant strike, massive goal.

15:22 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Some actual chances! Here we go.

Gray on the left wing, cuts inside into the box and goes for goal. Straight at Fabianski. Both sides with a bit more quality already since the break.

15:21 , Matt Verri

49 mins: As close as West Ham have come, their best move by a mile.

Reverse pass to Fornals, he cuts the ball back and Bowen on the half volley can’t keep it down, effort flies over the bar.

Much better though from the visitors.

15:20 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Mykolenko with a lovely low cross, Zouma slides in and just about gets enought on it to concede the corner. Gray wasn’t far away from getting on the end of it.

Drilled into the near post, Coufal shanks it behind for another corner. Poor delivery so Gray takes over responsibilities this time.

Deeper ball, Kehrer gets it away.

Back underway

15:17 , Matt Verri

Let’s hope for some goals. Or at least a goal. We’ll take anything.

15:11 , Matt Verri

Six shots in the first 45 minutes - two for Everton, four for West Ham. Two on target for the visitors but both as comfortable for Begovic as he could wish for.

It’s not been the best in terms of quality, but there is space on offer on the counter for both. Just needs somebody to show a bit of calm in forward areas.

HT: Everton 0-0 West Ham

15:02 , Matt Verri

It’s been a relatively entertaining watch, but that’s largely due to it being absolutely frantic.

No goals though - not particularly close to getting one either.

15:01 , Matt Verri

45 mins: No.

Cresswell curls it back in, nobody anywhere near him. Zouma flicks a header straight at Begovic, easy save.

One minute added on.

15:00 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Tarkowski was lining that one up from about 20 yards away.

Ball played down the line, Antonio running onto it and Tarkowski launches himself at it, taking a bit of everything. Great challenge.

West Ham then win another corner - can they make one of these count?

14:57 , Matt Verri

41 mins: Throw-in at Gordon’s feet, Coufal goes through the back of him and that’s a very cheap free-kick. Again.

Gray to whip this in from the left wing, not far from the corner flag. It’s over everyone and behind for a goal-kick, sort of sums this half up.

14:54 , Matt Verri

39 mins: Turning into a bit of a mess, as both sides keep giving the ball away. Lots of space on offer.

Begovic doesn’t realise Antonio is standing right behind him, rolls it out to Tarkowski and very nearly allows Antonio to get there first.

Everton go up the other end and win a corner. Onana surely the target again. He is indeed, bounces around before Fabianski claims.

14:53 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Mykolenko with a nice run on the left, Onana tries to find him but for some reason decides to basically shoot at him.

Everton left-back unsurprisingly is unable to keep that in play.

14:50 , Matt Verri

34 mins: Brilliant cross from Gray, Onana there at the back post but Kehrer does well to flick the header away.

West Ham struggling to get out though, ball keeps coming back. Fornals has been really sloppy in possession on a couple of occasions.

14:48 , Matt Verri

32 mins: Bowen by the corner flag deep in West Ham territory, pressured by a couple of Everton shirts.

Smashes it against Mykolenko, ball bobbles around a bit and then behind for a goal-kick. Job done.

14:44 , Matt Verri

29 mins: First yellow card of the match, as Antonio spins Coady on the halfway line.

Coady decides that is a foot race he wants no part of, so just drags Antonio to the ground. Doesn’t bother to argue about the booking either.

14:42 , Matt Verri

27 mins: The Hammers continue to add to their corner tally, this time Coufal’s low cross is turned behind.

Bowen swings it in, Paqueta with the header from almost the edge of the box and Begovic can easily claim. Almost impossible to get enough power on it from there.

14:39 , Matt Verri

24 mins: West Ham giving away far too many cheap free-kicks. Kehrer this time just shoves Maupay from behind.

Paqueta is there at the near post to flicks it away to Mykolenko. He tries his luck from 25 yards out, miles over the bar.

Moyes on the touchline looking very frustrated as he shouts some instructions - West Ham have been under a fair bit of pressure.

14:37 , Matt Verri

22 mins: Headed out to the edge of the box, Cresswell with the ambitious attempt and it fires off Gueye, behind for a fourth corner in a row.

Coady clears and Gray leads the counter for Everton, brilliant footwork to beat two but Coufal ensures it’s not a third.

14:36 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Cresswell’s cross is charged down and the Hammers can bring the defenders up for a corner.

Fired into the near post, Onana there again and heads it behind for another corner. Take two. Better delivery this time, loops towards the back post and it’ll be yet another corner.

14:34 , Matt Verri

19 mins: Chance for West Ham to break, as Bowen lifts the ball forward for Antonio and he shrugs off Tarkowski.

Paqueta is free making the run through the middle, Antonio looks to find him but Coady reads it and intercepts. Crucial that he did, too.

14:33 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Coufal has space to drive into on the right, loses his footing though as Gordon closes him down.

West Ham struggling to string the passes together, Everton very much the better side so far.

14:29 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Tempers already boiling over a bit at Goodison. Gueye with a nasty challenge on Bowen, who still gets the pass away and advantage is played.

Bowen has stayed down though, looks in a fair bit of pain. Gueye just gets a warning which is very generous. West Ham man up but not moving particularly well.

14:27 , Matt Verri

12 mins: This time Onana does get on the end of it, doesn’t time the jump though and it’s comfortably wide.

Everton are pressing up high now, West Ham getting frustrated as Rice calls for calm. Paqueta opts not to listen and swipes at Gueye - another unnecessary free-kick.

14:26 , Matt Verri

11 mins: Iwobi and Gordon combine nicely, they win a corner for the Toffees.

Great delivery, just over Onana’s head and it’s cleared away. Only as far as Gray though, who is brought down by Paqueta. Free-kick in a nice position out wide for Everton.

14:24 , Matt Verri

8 mins: That’s a chance though, poor ball from Soucek and Everton win it back.

Maupay slides Iwobi in, tries to go round Fabianski but runs out of room and it’s behind for a goal-kick. West Ham goalkeeper did well not to to make contact with him.

At the other end Bowen does brilliantly to get to the byline, fires it across the face of goal and Coady does superbly to turn it behind for a corner. Antonio was waiting for a tap-in.

14:22 , Matt Verri

7 mins: Everton seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages, confident start on the whole from them.

Patterson has time to pick out someone in the box, floats the cross in and Fabianski can easily catch it. Neither side showing any real interest in pressing high up the pitch.

14:19 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Patterson gives the ball away, West Ham can break with Fornals. He tries to play in Paqueta, has to settle for a corner instead.

Doesn’t beat the first man, Gray completes the job by volleying the ball right up the pitch.

14:18 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Begovic lumps a ball forward, Gray beats Soucek in the air to flick it on. Fair to say he wasn’t favourite to do that...

Maupay not really expecting it, can’t get on the end of the ball as Fabianski comes off his line to claim.

KICK-OFF

14:15 , Matt Verri

Underway at Goodison Park - chance is there for either side to get a much-needed boost going into the international break.

Players are out

14:11 , Matt Verri

Managers lead the teams out, taking part in the pre-match tributes to Queen Elizabeth II.

Players wearing black armbands, as has been the case all weekend. There will be a minute’s silence before the national anthem is sung.

Not long now...

14:06 , Matt Verri

Kick-off coming up in less than ten minutes now.

Both sides need a win, and both sides will feel they can get all three points this afternoon. Could set it up to be an entertaining clash.

Then again, it could be a nervy, tense encounter. We’ll hope it’s the former.

Paqueta to shine?

13:59 , Matt Verri

Moyes’s pre-match thoughts

13:50 , Matt Verri

“We’ve shown some signs in recent games. We won away at Villa, we had a good result against Tottenham and we played quite well, Chelsea as well.

“Coupled in between that we’ve had three or four good results in Europe so we’re getting closer, but I don’t think we’ve quite the rhythm we had last season and the season before.

“It takes a little bit of time to come. The toughest thing at the moment is the number of games - the gelling would normally come at the training ground.”

Everton boss explains team selection

13:44 , Matt Verri

Big afternoon for both sides

13:37 , Matt Verri

Everton 17th in the table, West Ham 18th. Both sides with just four points from their opening six games.

The Toffees are still looking for their first league win of the season too, after four draws and two defeats. Goals not exactly flying in either for either side - a combined seven between them.

Not really set up to be a classic - we’ll hope for the best!

Gray confident results will improve

13:30 , Matt Verri

Antonio gets nod over Scamacca

13:21 , Matt Verri

So Fabianski, Zouma and Bowen among those to come back into the side after being rested in midweek. Cresswell preferred to Emerson at left-back, while Scamacca has to settle for a place on the bench as Antonio leads the line.

For Everton, Gueye starts but there is no Calvert-Lewin in the squad despite the talk that he could return from injury.

It’s Gray and Gordon even side of Maupay for the hosts.

West Ham team news

Subs: Areola, Dawson, Emerson, Ogbonna, Downes, Lanzini, Cornet, Benrahma, Scamacca

Visitors have arrived

13:11 , Matt Verri

Calvert-Lewin involved?

13:06 , Matt Verri

“He’s close and we’ll see come Sunday whether he’s ready to start a game or not. We’ll be careful with him obviously because he’s had a difficult injury, so we’ll see.”

That’s what Frank Lampard had to say in his press conference earlier this week about Dominic Calvert-Lewin and his fitness.

With the international break after today’s match, will that encourage Everton to take a risk? We’ll find out when the team news drops in less than ten minutes.

Moyes confident new signings will prove value for money

12:49 , Matt Verri

David Moyes is convinced his raft of big-money summer signings will come good as he seeks to build momentum following a slow start to the season.

The Hammers lost their opening three Premier League fixtures but arrive at Goodison Park with increasing confidence on the back of an upturn in performances and results.

Moyes’ men have been boosted by successive wins in the Europa Conference League after a controversial defeat at Chelsea was preceded by a draw with Tottenham and victory at Aston Villa.

The Scot is happy to have greater competition for places and warned he will have no hesitation in dropping under-performing players.

“That’s exactly what we’ve been after,” he said of the squad depth. “We’ve not had that for probably the last couple of years, or certainly not as much. But what we always have had here at West Ham is a great team spirit, a great group of lads who are committed.”

Tributes to the Queen

Prediction

12:30 , Matt Verri

The Toffees have become draw specialists while West Ham are hardly the most consistent team right now.

There could be some tired legs for the Hammers after their European clash in midweek, so they are unlikely to be firing on all cylinders.

A 1-1 draw.

How we think West Ham will line-up...

12:22 , Matt Verri

Predicted West Ham XI: Fabianski; Coufal, Kehrer, Zouma, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Paqueta, Fornals; Antonio.

Early team news

12:14 , Matt Verri

Jordan Pickford is out for the hosts with Asmir Begovic to deputise. Dominic Calvert-Lewin could return after a lay-off with a knee injury.

“All we want is Dominic fit and firing but it is difficult with injuries as it can easily happen when you get one and then another one comes,” said Lampard ahead of the game.

Ben Johnson and Nayef Aguerd are set to be West Ham’s only absentees but David Moyes could rotate his squad.

“I think it is important to try and use the players as best as we can,” Moyes told reporters on Friday.
