Everton's Andre Gomes suffers horrific injury against Spurs
Andre Gomes suffered an awful ankle injury in Everton’s Premier League fixture with Tottenham.
The Portuguese midfielder fell under a challenge from Son Heung-min, but caught his leg in the turf just after which appeared to cause the injury.
The South Korean looked visibly distressed, as did a number of players around Gomes, and was sent off soon afterwards.
An Everton club statement read: “Everton Football Club can confirm Andre Gomes will undergo surgery tomorrow (Monday, November 4) after sustaining an ankle injury in today's game with Tottenham Hotspur.
“Andre was stretchered from the pitch during the second half of the game and taken straight to Aintree Hospital by ambulance accompanied by members of the Everton medical team. After undergoing hospital tests, it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle.

“The club will provide further updates in due course.”
After going down, Gomes was immediately surrounded by teammates as medical staff ran on to the pitch. Broadcasters showed no replays as the severity of the injury quickly emerged.
Spurs fullback Serge Aurier also looked visibly upset, as keeper Paulo Gazzaniga came over to comfort him.
Gomes received a standing ovation and was cheered all around Goodison Park as he was stretchered off.
Although Son’s challenge didn’t initially cause the injury, Gomes fell as a result and collided with Aurier. He initially received a booking, but it was later changed to a red card by referee Martin Atkinson.
After the game the Premier League released a statement that said: "The red card for Son was for endangering the safety of a player which happened as a consequence of his initial challenge."
Speaking after the game, Dele Alli said: "I didn't want to look too much at what happened. I want to send Andre my best wishes.
"Son is devastated and in tears - it's not his fault. Son is one of nicest people you've ever met. He can't even lift his head up, he's crying so much.
"The injury does play on your mind during the match but you have to stay professional."
Everton went on to grab a late equaliser late into injury time when Cenk Tosun headed home to cancel out Alli’s opener.
