Coventry City's transfer business has been pretty slow going so far in the January window.

The Sky Blues came really close to taking one player on loan last week, only for that to come crashing to a halt. However, the club have been in hot pursuit of Swansea midfielder and skipper Matt Grimes, having made three bids for the 29-year-old's services ahead of this weekend's trip to face the Swans in South Wales.

And after having their third offer accepted on Wednesday - reported to be between £3.5m and £4m - Grimes is set to become Lampard's first signing since taking charge at the club.

Here we take a look at every player who has been linked with Frank Lampard's team so far in the mid-term window as the clock ticks down to Monday's deadline.

The Rangers winger was all set to become Frank Lampard's first signing, set to join on loan following City's midweek win at Blackburn Rovers this month. However, just as the Sky Blues looked set to take the 24-year-old, negotiations stalled and the deal is now dead in the water. It's understood that the move broke down due to a disagreement between the clubs, claiming they have been unable to agree on the bonuses involved as part of the deal.

Tyrique George and Sam Rak-Sakyi

Lampard is claimed to have a shortlist of three players that he’d like to take on loan from his former club Chelsea for the remainder of the season. The Sky Blues head coach has already been linked with talented teenager Sam Rak-Sakyi and now it has emerged that Tyrique George could well be a target for the Stamford Bridge legend.

Journalist Simon Phillips has shared on his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that the Blues are not currently willing to loan anyone out to Coventry in case they need them for a swap deal. However, according to Phillips’ source, Lampard has a "shortlist" of three Chelsea players and has asked his former club can he take one of them for the rest of the season.

Jeffrey Schlupp

Coventry City were reported to be leading the chase for Crystal Palace’s experienced and versatile Jeffrey Schlupp.

The Sun’s transfer specialist Alan Nixon, who was at Ewood Park this month when the Sky Blues beat Blackburn 2-0 in the Championship, claims City have “moved ahead” of Rovers in the race to secure the 32-year-old’s signature.

Louie Barry

The highly-rated Aston Villa youngster has been linked with a number of Championship clubs after returning to his parent club this month. He enjoyed a successful loan spell at League One side Stockport County, scoring 16 goals in 24 appearances, lighting up League One this season playing mainly on the left-hand side of attack. The Sun’s transfer specialist Alan Nixon claimed he could join Derby in another loan spell, while TEAMtalk reported that number of clubs have registered an interest in signing the 21-year-old, including Sheffield United, Coventry City, Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City. However, it's emerged that Hull City have secured the player for the remainder of the season.

Michal Helik

There's been plenty of talk that City are in the market for a centre-back, with plenty of social media chatter about the Huddersfield Town defender and the Sky Blues, albeit nothing concrete from any credible source. The 29-year-old Poland international has plenty of experience and knows the Championship well after four seasons in the second tier – two with Barnsley and two with the Terriers. But he moved to Oxford United on a permanent deal earlier in the month.

Rob Holding

The Sun claimed earlier in the window that Frank Lampard was “trying to persuade” the former Arsenal centre-back to drop down to the Championship on loan. Currently at Crystal Palace, following a £4million move in 2023, the defender has never featured in the Premier League for the Eagles, initially due to injury but, more recently, due to falling out with his Austrian coach Oliver Glasner.

Kai Wagner

City have been linked with interest in German defender Kai Wagner, who is currently plying his trade in the USA with MLS side Philadelphia Union.

Sky Sports Germany first reported interest earlier this month from the Sky Blues in the 27-year-old left-back, who has an impressive 12 assists and one goal so far this season. The broadcaster claims the player has also attracted the attention of Championship rivals Burnley as well as Italian Serie A clubs Atalanta Bergamo and Parma who, it is said, have already made inquiries for his services ahead of the January transfer window.

And another outlet claims that the player’s £1.6million release clause means that any club who manages to get “a defender this good for such a bargain is nothing short of highway robbery.”

Tyler Bindon

City, along with Hull and Watford are among a host of Championship clubs chasing Reading FC defender Tyler Bindon in the January transfer window, claimed Football League World, which says the Royals are bracing themselves for offers for the New Zealand international as the player enter the final six months of his contract at the club.

Bindon has been an ever-present figure at the heart of the Berkshire side’s defence this season, making 19 appearances for the club as the Royals look to push for a play-off spot in League One. The 19-year-old centre-back joined Reading back in August 2023, arriving from the LAFC Academy in the USA and was immediately thrust into the first-team under previous Royals boss Ruben Selles, making 40 appearances for them in League One last term.

Charlie Warren

Coventry City are one of a number of clubs interested in a goal scoring forward currently ripping it up in the eighth tier of the English football pyramid.

According to a report by Football League World, the Sky Blues are one of three clubs “eyeing moves” for left-winger Charlie Warren of non-league side Felixstowe and Walton United. The 20-year-old has scored 26 goals and provided numerous assists for the leaders of the Isthmian League North Division which has apparently caught the attention of City’s scouting network along with League One outfits Wycombe Wanderers and Lincoln.

Joe Andrews

Coventry have also been reported to be among several clubs, including Norwich, Swansea and Peterborough, tracking 18-year-old non-league sensation Joe Andrews. The Wales Under-19 International is a 6ft two inches tall central midfielder who plays for Chippenham in the National League South, having been let go by Southampton last summer.
