Enzo Maresca has spoken to the press after his Chelsea side beat Wolves 3-1 on Monday night. The win came after five without a victory in the league.

Goals from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke after half time put the game to bed following a strong start. Chelsea let Wolves back into the game before the break after Robert Sanchez's howler allowed Matt Doherty to score.

The win puts Chelsea back up to fourth in the table ahead of a crucial run of matches. Chelsea had to play their evening without a key group of players who were sidelined through injury.

Here is everything the Chelsea boss said after the match.

A first win in five, what has changed?

Yeah, as you said, win the game after five games where we didn't win. It's complicated but I think in the five games that we did not win the performance was there. I said already many times that the problem has been inside the box where we could be a bit more clinical.

Tonight was important to win the game. The first half, 40 minutes, the team was brilliant. Score goal, create chances, then it happened again, the same thing that already happened in the last four or five games. When we concede we lost a little bit of confidence.

Then, second half, again we control the game, we score twice, we could score more. We are happy for the three points.

Trevoh Chalobah was brilliant today, how good is it to have him back?

Absolutely, he was very good. I said already that the reason he is back is because we are sure that he is going to help us and tonight he showed exactly that he is capable to do it.

What exactly does he bring?

First of all he's a strong defender, he's quick, he can defend behind, he can defend forward. He is aggressive. But we already knew so this is the reason why we call him back.

How bad are the injuries to Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia?

Romeo is more important than Enzo. We don't know yet how long they are going to be out. Hopefully not too long.

Was Renato Veiga left out because he is getting transfer interest?

No, no, no. It's because of a technical decision. We prefer, for instance, Ty [Tyrique George] or Jadon [Sancho] as a winger on the bench if we need to change both and then we changed both. The reason why was just for that.

It feels like Noni Madueke can still improve in the final third.

Yes. He scored a goal but after he scored the goal he stopped playing. This has to be something that we need to improve immediately, absolutely. Never happy if you score one, two, you go for more and I think after he scored the goal he stopped a little bit playing and that is something we need to improve.

On Lavia and Fernandez, you said they had muscular fatigue, is that still the case or is it something more?

Muscle fatigue or muscle problem. We need to wait a little bit.

Was that picked up in training?

No. Both were against Bournemouth. The Romeo one was the yellow card, I don't know if you remember the yellow card. Enzo, against Bournemouth, was 92 or 93 minutes just the last minutes of the game.

How important was it to win tonight ahead of Manchester City?

Absolutely, very important. Very important to win always but especially tonight after five games without a win. I think it was not easy and then again we score first and then they draw. I think the reaction was much, much better.

It's not the first time you've mentioned Madueke needing to improve his mentality. Is the message getting through?

No, we just try to always help them to improve and after the goal he was also probably a little bit tired, I don't know. But it's the moment that we need to go for more in that moment.

Will the injuries to Lavia and Fernandez impact what happens to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this month?

No. We are not going to take a decision on Kiernan because of Romeo and Enzo. They are injured, absolutely. I said already, a few days ago or weeks ago, that the intention is to keep Kiernan but then because we are in January anything can happen.

Because of some injuries we take some decisions also tonight. Levi [Colwill] was out. Cole [Palmer] played with a small problem in his ankle.

For me tonight it has been one of the best games from Cole in terms of showing leadership in a difficult moment for the team. He showed himself second half asking for the ball. In the moment you have to see that kind of player not only when they score goals or give assists. They are very important for the team also when they need them and they are there.

For Cole, with the problem in his ankle he was there second half asking for the ball. He was a little bit the leader in the team in that moment so we are very happy with the Cole performance. Overall, the situation with the injuries in this moment and we try and adapt to find a solution.
